WWYD: Telling interviewers about baby

Second post of the day, need advice on something i keep debating in my mind.  backstory my husband got a new job last year so I quit my job and we moved to CA. I had started looking for a job. I found out i was pregnant and then we found the baby has Spina Bifida. My Dr advised me to stop job hunting due to the complications. Baby was born in november. he had a rocky start but is doing very well now. I have been job searching and here is my dilema.

People ask what I have been doing the last 1.5 years? I read all these things about the mommy penalty and so i would say "I relocated from WA to CA". well I could tell people where like what have you been doing? so then i started to say 'I relocated to CA and had a baby a few months ago" people then seemed to go "Oh OK, I understand why she hasn't been working".

What do you think I should say about my 1.5 year gap in my resume? I do NOT want to go into my sons issues as he is doing well now and this shouldnt be an issue going forward.

Re: WWYD: Telling interviewers about baby

  • I think you stated it very well above. I moved, I had a baby, the baby had quite a rough start, but he's a champ and doing great now so I'm eager to get back in the workforce and resume my career with you.

  • I don't think you have to mention your son's medical issues at all.  You can simply say that your family relocated and you took time to start a family.  You technically don't even have to say that.
  • "I took some time off to relocate my family." That's all I'd say.
This.  No need to divulge any more than that.
  • "I took some time off to relocate my family." That's all I'd say.
    That's perfect.
