Hospital pajamas

What you are planning to pack for pajamas during the hospital stay? STM's suggestions are appreciated as well!

I'm sure I'm overthinking this, but I didn't know if I should pack a crappier pair of pj's that I won't care if I bleed on them. Also, is something with buttons better for breastfeeding?

TIA!

Re: Hospital pajamas

  • I packed sweatpants, tank tops, sports bras, and a couple sweatshirts in case it was cold. They kept the room pretty warm though for baby. I wore sweats for bed and during the day. Honestly, you're up so many times during the night between baby and nurses that you won't have time to leak.

  • I brought a pair of black nursing pjs from motherhood maternity with me. Didn't bleed on them (at least they didn't stain), and I loved them. They were so comfy and soft. The top was a double-shelf tank top, and you pull down the front shelf to reveal an open-cup second shelf for nursing. I didn't really use that feature, though, and just popped a boob out the top. ;)

Anything you can easily get a boob out of that is soft/comfy and a dark material (stains) will work. Also, nothing long and dangly like draw strings, etc., that might pose a hazard for baby.

  • Something dark so if you bleed on them you won't notice. And if you're going to breastfeed, something that will make that easy for you!

  • Nursing tanks are the way to go. You can always add layers if you're cold, but you likely won't be. Also, I'd take dark pants/shorts that you don't care if you bleed on.

  • I honestly just wore the hospital gowns the day of delivery and 1st 24 hrs after. Then loose sweat pants, older cotton underwear and a nursing tank or loose t-shirt.

  • I wore the hospital gowns the entire time. They were just easier with BFing for me. I packed a pair of nursing PJs, but never wore them. I actually did bleed on the hospital gowns a couple times so I am glad that I never wore my own PJs.

  • I bought pajama pants and long sleeve pajama shirts a couple sizes bigger than I normally wear and was super comfy. They were cute so I felt less frumpy. Some woman are super bloated for a little while after delivery so I made sure the pj's fit while pregnant. I found I was cold at the hospital, so I liked long pants, long sleeve shirts and thick comfy socks but every hospital is different. I never bled on my clothes.
  • Either nursing pajamas or nursing tanks with yoga pants.   You need something with easy access if you are going to be breastfeeding.  Also, if you are having any visitors, you may feel more comfortable in your own clothes than wearing a hospital gown after delivery.  I didn't bleed on mine the previous 2 times (but peroxide should get the stains out if you do.

  • I wore a hospital gown for the first 36 hours or so.  I figured that I'd rather get blood on their stuff vs my own.  I changed to black lounging pants and a nursing tank after.  I'm hoping to pick up some comfy black nursing pjs to use this time around, but I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to find some.

I think it really depends on how many visitors you are expecting at the hospital and what you will feel comfortable wearing.  I didn't have any visitors other than DH and hospital related stuff with my first (all of our family lives far away) so I wasn't overly concerned about what I was wearing most of the time.

  • I take my own pajamas.. im just not comfortable that way.. I wear mesh panties and the giant pads as well, and have had no issues :)
  • I got this from JcPenny's, as I had a giftcard leftover from Christmas.  I got mine in black, as that could hide stains, and would be easy to nurse with.  It is SUPER comfortable!!
