I wouldn't mind laboring for a bit in one if it sounds good when the time comes, but I want to actually give birth in a bed. I know for some women it can be very relaxing though...it's definitely something worth discussing with your OB if you're interested in it!
I'm planning to have a water birth (or at least a water labor), too! At home, in our living room It looks so peaceful-- I love watching birth videos on YouTube, and the water births always look the best
I don't know if hospitals will actually allow you to give birth in the tub. I think you can only labor in the tub. The AAP came out with this statement back in March saying that giving birth in the water poses certain risks. They're probably being extra cautious but I would assume that hospitals probably follow their advice. But obviously if you're giving birth outside of a hospital, you can do what you like. I certainly want to labor in a tub (and I'm giving birth in a hospital).
I had a water birth with my second baby and plan to again this time. Water is incredible for pain management and I think really helps to prevent tearing and relax mom during pushing. With my second, it all happened so fast we didn't even have the birthing tub out of the tote yet - oops!! I gave birth in our bathtub. Not ideal but I did what my instincts told me to do! This time we will have the birth tub set up early!
I would LOVE to have a water birth, but my hopsital doesn't currently allow them. They do have labor tubs and are natural-birth friendly, at least. I labored in the tub with DS, and having to move to the bed when it came time to push was awful. It was the hardest part of my labor - I was so comfy in the tub.
My midwife group, which is affiliated with the hospital, is working on getting the hospital to allow water births. I had hoped they would be approved by November, but it doesn't look like they will be. According to my midwife, they have the support of the OBs/birthing staff at the hospital, but the pediatricians are still hesitant (I guess based on that AAP recommendation).
Where is the best place to look for info on positions for birthing in the water. (I am thinking best positions to push, etc)
I am very interested in learning more about water births. I know I want to labour in the tub and from what I have read on TB it seems like the transition to the bed to push after labouring in the tub isn't desirable to say the least.
I am going to talk to my MW this week at my appointment, but would love to hear what you guys found useful.

My MW is OK with me I'm any position in the rub as long as I am staying under water enough. If the position brings you too high in the water it isn't safe to push baby out because once they hit the air they cannot go back into the water.
I was squatting with my second. It was sooooo much easier than on my back in bed with my first.

I hope to labour in water more this time.
