Contractions

How soon did you all start feeling contractions before your babies came? I am 35 weeks along I had a NST done last week and some mild contractions showed up that I wasn't feeling. Today I am feeling more crampy, but I can't tell if they are Braxton hicks or real contractions!

Re: Contractions

  • If they make you say "Oww" or you can't laugh at a joke, they're real. That's how I remember my OB describing them to me when pregnant with DD and that was totally the truth.

  • I was 35weeks and 4cm dilated and 80%effaced without feeling a single contraction. I didn't real start feeling them until I was at least a 6 and they had started pitocin. It is hard to say when you will start feeling them, I think everyon is so different!

  • I had contrax for quite a few weeks before the babies came. They weren't regular and were only mildly painful. I was having NSTs and had a few while on the monitors but no one seemed concerned since they weren't all that painful.

Contrax for me are like period cramps. W both my singleton and the twins they were never the all-over contrax you hear about. I discounted a lot of early labor symptoms w the twins - irregular contrax, being dilated, and losing my mp - bc those things can mean nothing, that is until they do mean something!

The only way I knew labor was for real w both of my labors is that my water broke.

How much longer after that did you have your babies? I am 35 weeks and I just had an appt today and I was 3 dilated and 70% effaced
  • @eringerard35‌ I was 1.5cm and 70% at 32w. My water broke at 34w and I was at a 6 within 45min. W my singleton, I wasn't dilated at all and was 50% effaced at 36w and had him a week later at 37w1d.

Alternatively, I'd heard people hanging out at a 5 for weeks.

  • Thanks @carrotcake06‌ ! That takes a little stress off of me knowing they may not show up for a couple more weeks :)
  • I was induced a few dates later but I've wondered myself how far I would have made it. Are you on bed rest of anything? I'd say take it pretty easy if you can for the next week!

  • @rachelkongsore@hotmail.com‌ my doctor basically just said to take it easy! So I would say I am unofficially on bed rest

I never had these and delivered my girls vaginally... So I'd say if you aren't sure, start timing them and call your OB.
