Mesh Crib Bumper /Liners

The board is a little slow so hopefully you don't mind an SS thread.

MJ has suddenly become a turner in her crib. Put her in one direction, go in to get her when she wakes and she's turned 90 degrees. This morning her little feet and legs were sticking out between the crib slates. I'm concerned she might get really stuck or hurt herself while moving about.

Are the mesh bumper/liners as evil as they are also sometimes reported to be? Or any experience with them either good or bad?

Re: Mesh Crib Bumper /Liners

  • We used them starting at 5 mo when we sleep trained because of the same issue. DD would get her limbs stuck and we'd have to go in before our check in time. I thought they were fine.

  • We never had any issues with my older son using the mesh bumpers -- I think they're better for air circulation than the regular bumpers, and they did prevent him from getting stuck.

  • I used them with DS #1 and didn't have a problem. I just put them on for ds2. I liked them because my DS would get his legs stuck in the slats.

  • My mom just made me bumper pads for LO crib for the exact same reason. She is 8weeks.
  • LO started sleeping in her crib a week ago and the first morning we went in to get her, her leg was between the slates (she's a mover!). I put the mesh bumper on and this morning when I went to get her, she was on her belly with her face right up against it. She's fine... although I freaked and felt terrible.

  • That is one DEDICATED grandma -- it honestly never occurred to me to check if they were breathable :)

  • We have them in our crib... Of course LO doesn't yet sleep in her crib yet so I'm not so helpful....
  • LO is currently sleeping in the PNP but wakes up every time having turned 90-180 degrees and usually has his faced pressed to the mesh. It hasn't been a problem thus far and I planned to use the mesh bumpers in the crib once he sleeps through the night.

Are they considered super unsafe? I had thought that everyone was switching to those...
