Stay at Home Moms

WWYD

We are visiting my parents in Vegas. we plan on driving to Disneyland Mon-Wednesday next week. My mom has offered to keep DS (7.5 months) with her here in Vegas for those 3 days. I'm toying with the idea because I'm thinking it'll probably be a pain to deal with a baby at a theme park? I guess I feel a bit guilty leaving him behind. Would you?

  • I would leave the baby. IMO it would be a hassle to push a stroller or baby wear, especially with the heat. It also lets your older child get some one on one attention and for you to be fully involved (everyone being able to ride the rides, etc.) since they are likely to remember the trip and your baby won't. Your younger child will get some quality grandma time and will be able to keep his schedule.

  • @Keeptruckin‌ we went to Disneyland last year, but I guess I didn't pay attention to all the access to baby stuff, and rides he can enjoy. We plan to do California Adventure as well. We've never been there, do you think it's still has enough baby rides? I looked at the weather and this week it's in the low-mid 80s.

  • I think Disneyland has more baby rides than CA. The only one in California Adventure I can think of is the Ariel ride. Since we have only one child, I don't know what I would do. It is tempting to have some fun with the older kids. Either way you will all have a blast.
  • Eh, I guess I understand the "bringing everyone along" if its a toddler but a baby? IDK, I don't think its a big deal since they won't remember and I imagine your mother would love it.

I do feel bad leaving the baby behind and him not being in any pictures. We have two kids that would go with us actually. DD is 6 and DS is 3. I feel like in 10 years the baby will look at pictures and realize he was already born and ask why there aren't any pictures of him.

My heart is telling me to take him, but a tiny piece of me is telling me i should leave him.

  • There are a bunch of rides in CA for baby to enjoy. Ariel, Midway Mania (Toy Story), Golden Zephyr, Monster's Inc, Flik's Fliers in Bug's Land, Heimlich's Chew Chew train (also Bug's Land), Ladybug spin ride (also Bug's Land). Plus there is Aladdin and Disney Jr. And there is the Wilderness Explorer area that has slides and fun places to explore. Disneyland has a ton of rides too. If it doesn't have a height requirement, they can ride.

Well, by that reasoning we should all just stay home and do nothing with babies because they would never remember it.
lol yes thats exactly what I meant.

I think if you are worried about feeling guilty I'd bring him. I certainly wouldn't raise an eyebrow if you didn't bring him, especially now that I see you have two kids. One parent can ride with each kid and your not worried about nap time, or bottles, etc. Do you think you will ever go back some day?

Either way, I'm sure you will have a great time!

  • I've been taking my kids (by myself) since they were 6 and 7 weeks. I don't like the idea of leaving a kid behind. If you baby wear, even better. Up until this last trip (yesterday) DD spent the whole day in the ergo, mostly asleep. Another option is to bring your mom to watch the baby

  • Thanks ladies! I think I'm going to take him. After reading your responses and all the things he can do, I think he should go. He's a great napper on the Ergo so I think we will be ok. I'm still nursing so it'll be a lot easier than pumping.

I think the idea of just leaving him and my mom watching him sounded nice, but Given all the info I have now it only feels right to take him.

  • Have your mom babysit some night while you're still in Vegas!
    DD - 12/31/13
  • There's also a Pixar parade that is super fun! L loves it.

  • Not sure why my whole message didn't appear! She will definitely be staying with the kids to go out in Vegas. DH finally gets here tomorrow night. I've been here with the kids for over a week now. We will be going back home to Chicago on the 16th.

That's the only ride I could think of in CA, oh and maybe the merry-go-round?  I agree, either way it should work out fine!
  • I totally forgot bout bugs land! So much for a baby to do there!

I am clearly a terrible mom. If my H and I were going with 2 older kids I would leave the baby and spend some quality time with the 2 older ones. sure the baby will enjoy seeing stuff, and sure there are rides you CAN take the baby on, but at 7 months my baby loved target too, lol. Also, the baby will NOT look at pictures in 10 years and realize he/she was alive then and be upset. that's dumb. just because you can take a baby doesn't mean you have to. especially if you are going to go back again with your kids.
Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one, I was beginning to feel like an awful mom when no one else agreed with me. lol
