This is my first pregnancy, and I am super excited to start looking the part . Do any of you have any stretch mark cream recommendations? If so, when did you start using it?
Do you have any stretch marks on your body? If you are fair complexion, of european heritage, and have women in your family who have stretch marks, it is highly unlikely that any creams you put on will stop stretch marks from appearing. Stretch marks are actually tears that happen within the dermis layer, so nothing you put on the top layer of skin will really help down that low in the skin layers.
Stretch marks are generally as a result of genetics, hormones and possibly diet, though that last one is questionable, as stretch marks tend to run in families so genetics in both the elasticity of the dermis and the hormones associated with creating the elasticity in the dermis are highly likely the reason for them.
Now there is nothing wrong with a nice shea butter or almond oil, or coco butter lotion to use for your skin while pregnant. You will find your skin will get drier as you move into the second and third trimester, and lotioning dry skin that is being stretched by baby does feel nice. There are some that claim to decrease the appearance of stretch marks after you've already got them, those are mostly scar reducer creams, and I've never seen them to really work like they claim. After two kids, my stomach has stretch marks that extend 3 inches above my belly button and go all the way down. There was no stopping them. I am short and have a short waist, so I carried straight out...my stomach was huge with both pregnancies, so stretch marks were inevitable for me, given I already have them on my boobs, butt, arms and thighs. It happens. It's just another part of being a mom for many of us.

I agree with mamabumkin. There is no magical cream that will avoid stretch marks. You basically either get them or you don't. Just put on the usual lotion you typically put on and drink plenty of fluids and that is about all you can do. Expensive creams or oils that claim to avoid stretch marks are a scam.
Yeah, unfortunately stretchmarks are genetic. I used BioOil with my first and ended up with a few very small ones on my lower belly but stretch marks don't run in my family.
