Swelling

Hello girls! I am sure this has been a topic but I am mobile bumping and can't search..

So yesterday I spent about 8 hours in a car driving to my inlaws house. I noticed last night my feet were swollen and today they are just as bad if not worse. I have been drinking plenty of water, and normally I get about 7,00-10,000 steps a day. Any idea why they would be swelling or how to get them to stop? My feet are in recognizable to me which really kinda freaks me out!

Re: Swelling

  • My feet are swelling as well. My doctor attributed it to the excessive heat (I'm in south Florida). Just keep your feet up and stay hydrated!

Yes, stay hydrated.  You can also try compression socks if it doesn't get better in a day or so.

  • Keep your feet up, drink plenty of water, and try to stay out of the car for long periods of time or at least try to get out and walk every few hours.

so you do think it is from the car ride also? I was not completely sure if that is what may have caused it.

It could have been from the car ride, or you could be not drinking enough water.  If the swelling doesn't go down in a day or so once you've returned to your normal routine, I would call your doctor.

  • Mine did the same after a long car ride. DH and I drove from TX to NC and it took 2 days. Talk about some swelling lol.

I propped them up for the night and even while sleeping. They went back to normal by morning. Call the Dr though if you are worried. Everyone is different.

  • Thanks ladies, I'm not really worried so much as it's annoying and I feel like it is too early to kiss my ankles goodbye! :) I did manage to talk DH into me needing a pedicure, thought it may help. Lol but since I have an 8 hour car ride back to TX on Saturday I won't worry about it too much till after I get home. Thanks again girls!!

  • I have had the same issue when I travel, I think from lack of movement for hours at a time.  I do an Epsom Salt soak, 2 cups of salt and a bucket full of water, followed by my feet elevated and it seems to do the trick. I hate to think what my feet/ankles will look like 10 weeks from now. Eeeek!!
