car seat in truck

so we are in the process of turning our lo forward facing. lo is about to grow out of the weight restrictions (next two pounds). the car seat in my vehicle fits great. my dh's truck is a different story. the graco my ride does not fit on the seat. the back is not up against the seat and his truck seats cannot be reclined even the slightest. we are in the process of looking to purchase a new carseat, without spending the money we did on the britax; however, if we have to then we will. so please, recommend a seat that you think may work great. the nearest bru is about two hours away, so we would like to do research before driving that way. in the meantime, lo will ride in my vehicle or rear facing still in the truck. thanks in advance!

Re: car seat in truck

  • How old is he? What is his weight/height? I kinda think from what your saying that you are still using a infant seat for your LO & your LO may need to stay rear facing longer.

As far as a space saver and secondary seat I like the Safety 1st Guide 65. It actually took up less space rear facing than our infant seat did & it's very affordable. Here is the review:

I'd also recommend checking out the rest of this site as well.

  • What kind of truck are you trying to install in? Is the seat a regular one or the backseat of an extended cab? We recently traded in my husbands beloved Tacoma because the backseat was only 11" deep and could not accommodate a car seat. Most car seat manufacturers have a max allowable overhang, so a shallow seat won't hold a car seat well, no matter which seat you choose.

yes, forgot that information. lo is well over 2.5y. almost 40lbs. so yes, been erf for a long time! the backseat is an extended cab, rf fit very well.

edit: we have been using a convertible and not the infant carrier.

  • I used a Britax Roundabout both forward- and rear-facing in my extended cab Toyota Tundra with no issues. We did have to scooch up the passenger seat a bit to accommodate, but that's all.
