Hi ladies. I have a question about something going on with my LO. We have a pedi appointment on Tuesday, but I was hoping to get some input before that...
DS is 8 weeks old, EBF. He has been on meds for reflux since 4 weeks, which helped him a lot.
About 2 weeks ago I noticed some mucous in his poops, but didn't worry too much as everything else was normal. Then on Friday morning he had a very gross smelly green poop, full of mucous. He has been very gassy and his spitting up has increased and is now curdled looking. He's continued with the green mucous poops. He hasn't slept well in 2 nights (he's been squirming and grunting and waking more than usual - all things he did before he started the reflux meds).
I haven't noticed any blood.
I do have a bit of oversupply and fast letdown, but it doesn't usually seem to bother him. He mostly only takes one side per feeding unless its been an unusually long time.
I would love some input on what this might be and/or questions I should be asking the pedi.
Re: Possible MSPI/other intolerance? Something else?
The pediatrician can test baby's stool for blood and to see if the Ph is off, which will tell you for sure that it's some sort of intolerance.
Both my boys were MPI. The older one needed the full 4 weeks to show much difference in disposition or poop. But he wasn't Dx'ed until almost 6 weeks. The younger I knew what to look for and we caught it around 3 weeks. He showed improvement within a week of eliminating, bit his poop didn't fully go back to normal until 5 week out.
If you do end up thinking it's MPI/MSPI check out godairyfree.org for tips on reading labels and avoiding hidden dairy. mspimama.com has a ton of great recipes.
((Hugs)) mama! There's nothing worse than watching your LO suffer. I think there's still an MSPI check in on this board each week. They are an awesome support group! Hope you get the answers you need.
