Trouble TTC

Anyone on clomid?

My OB originally wanted to start me on Metformin but instead prescribed me Clomid. Anyone on clomid or know anything about clomid? I'm excited because I know my sister in law conceived on clomid but other than that I know nothing about it. Anyone have side effects on clomid?

Re: Anyone on clomid?

  • I've been on clomid since the beginning of the year.  I've had to have a steroid added because I was poor to respond but now I have found the right mg combination.  Hot flashes are the most I ever experience.  Some people experience pain or sick feeling but I just had hot flashes.
    Good luck!!!

  • I started Clomid in Feb, of this year. Even though I ovulate on my own, my OB wanted to make sure BOTH eggs released every month instead of just one.
Side effects include ovarian cysts, mood swings( which is a complete understatement!) hot flashes, and a very rare side effect blurred vision.

Out of all of the side effects mood swings, and blurred vision in my right eye are the only ones I've had. My mood swings were the absolute worst! I feel sooooooooooo bad for my hubs! He didn't know how to handle me happy one sec, pissed off 2 secs later, then crying for no apparent reason 5 secs after that! Every month I turned into Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde! It was horrible!
    Good luck to you!

  • I am not taking clomid.

You mention your OB prescribing this; are you having monitoring done? Has your husband had a semen analysis? Did you have an HSG?

I would not take clomid from an OB; mine tried to give it to me and I switched doctors. It is not something to take lightly. Also, you ask if we "know anything about clomid". Your OB should be going over all of this with you before prescribing you medicine.

I don't mean to sound annoyed but OBs that act like REs gets frustrating! Please make sure you understand the risks before taking this medicine!

@Shocker929‌ I would also recommend that you have monitoring done while taking clomid and see a RE. Clomid can have serious side effects on your fertility and OBs are really not qualified to treat infertility. Also, you say you started clomid in February, are you on your 6th cycle with it? Many REs recommend switching treatments after 3-4 tries, are you responding well? Please see a RE who can help you get pregnant in the safest and most effective way.

  • @greenbride2012‌ I was just reading your previous discussion and it doesn't look like you are having monitoring done either! this is very important!! Please see a RE who can help you get pregnant in the safest and most effective way. Also, you've been taking clomid since March, that is a long time to continue with the same protocol. Please see a RE!

  • I'm on clomid, hot flashes are the only thing I've ever experienced. Still waiting to trigger with my second round of clomid. I feel like that first didn't count because we were on vacation and basically were forced to trigger without a mature follicle. This time is much different. We have two good ones and ok one ready form trigger by hopefully tomorrow.

@greenbride2012‌ The comments were meant to help you, not hurt you or dissuade you from joining the board. IF is very difficult and stressful and many people (myself included) go to their OB thinking that they can help.

Unfortunately, many OBs don't give all of the information about clomid and people take it without knowing the harm it could do. Although you say you're seeing a RE it was hard to to tell from your previous post when you said you weren't being monitored. I wish you the best of luck and know that we only want to help people get the best treatment. I would feel badly if I didn't say anything and then later found out this woman was having terrible side effects. Good luck.

  • I had taken 4 or 5 rounds of clomid, unmonitored with my ob... Stupid I know. But I didn't have any side effects really. I didn't feel anything at all actually, so I started femara and now onto hmg. I have also been taking Metformin with all meds. No such luck yet. It's a long hard journey but think positive and don't let it get you down :D
  • Clomid gave me hot flashes and mood swings. Nothing terrible though. I did break down and bawl at work one day, seemingly for no reason.

  • Prior to joining this board I was seeing an OB for over a year TTC and I took 3 rounds of unmonitored clomid. I had terrible side effects. It's hard to tell because I was being unmonitored, but my endo pain was so bad during those months that I could hardly come in to work some of the time. I had hot flashes, mood swings, had trouble eating. Only to find out that the entire time I should have been monitored (and really should have been seeing an RE. After joining the boards I learned this and immediately made an appointment. I just honestly had no idea). Please take the advice of the ladies on this board and schedule and appointment with an RE prior to taking any type of fertility medication.
