  • I often experience this during (and sometimes after) pregnancy. I've always gone to the chiropractor, which helps tremendously!

  • I posted a question just like this about a week ago! A handful of people responded with suggestions of stretching, chiropractor, sitting on a tennis ball, not lifting anything heavy etc...

talked to my doctor as this became so severe for me I couldnt put any weight whatsoever on my left side. She said I could take Ibuprofen 800mg every 8 hours for a week and it would reduce the swelling in the area. After that she told me to only take it for flare ups and to be completely done with taking it by 28 weeks. She also suggested laying on the floor on my back to pull my butt towards the wall - lift my leg and hold it against the wall for a bit and switch to the other leg. She said to do this a few times a day as its a good stretch for this.

She said if its still bad they would have me see a chiropractor and maybe do some physical therapy however I would say the ibuprofen has done the trick for me and I barely feel any pain!

Sorry you're experiencing this- so not fun!! hopefully you feel better :) ask your doctor if you can take ibuprofen and hopefully it works for you as it has for me!

I'm dealing with this too, no fun at all.

I'm jealous your OB is ok with ibuprofen. My OB just offered to write me a rx for morphine or oxycontin (I'm allergic to Vicodin but that's his normal go to for pain). I turned those down and explained all I was is ibuprofen so we'll see what he says. Seriously though, how is morphine/oxycontin better for baby than ibuprofen? Makes no sense to me!

  • Chiropractor! I usually take ibuprofen, but way too scared to take it during pregnancy. Mine hasn't been bad enough that the Chiro couldn't fix or that I couldn't tolerate.
  • So my sciatic pain has been horrible since baby number 1 that I have a script for hydrocodone to take "as needed". I don't like to take it often because I build up a quick tolerance and it's the only thing that works. Here's the thing, there's hydro that is tylenol based and hydro that is ibuprofen based. My OB OK'd both, both pregnancies, but I prefer to have the one with the tylenol in it. To give you an idea of how bad the pain is, I am scheduling a MRI 3 months post pregnancy and having surgery done.. So, I get it...the pain is absolutely awful. Honestly, I have tried everything there is and only medicine seems to help. Obviously, do what is best for you, but just know that there are moms dealing with this and taking pain medication as needed to get through it. Not looking forward to not using it in the third trimester though (my choice...my doctor still OK'd it) when the sciatic nerves get unbearable. I do find that leg days at the gym do help the area though....even if just for a few hours. You could always try that!

Mine was so bad with number 2 I couldn't walk but it didn't hit till like 7 or 8 months and I figured I'd tough it out, but I think I may take the chiropractor route this time. I had it with dd too but I wasn't chasing a toddler so I think that's why it bothered me so much with ds.
