Waking to pee - already?

People say that certain pregnancy symptoms come quicker with each pregnancy.  Something I wasnt quite ready for at 10 weeks, is waking to pee in the MOTN.  I already feel like I've been pregnant forever...and now i know why!

  • I never stopped waking to pee after DS was born, so this is no big change for me. Doesn't make it suck any less though.

  • Actually this is super common in the first trimester. The reason is because your uterus at 10 weeks is the size of a grapefruit when it used to be the size of a small pear. It also weighs more with the amniotic fluid, little baby, placenta, and extra blood and sits right on top of your bladder. By 20 weeks the uterus will expand past the pelvic cavity and it will release some of this pressure on the bladder. Then you will get some relief... but when the baby starts getting bigger it will sit right on the bladder anyways so you will have to pee more later on too :)

People think the peeing often is just when the baby is big. Not so! For my it started at like 8 weeks and I was thinking I was going crazy. I'm almost 14 weeks now and feel like my bladder is the size of a pea. Can't wait to "pop" out and have a little more room in there!!

  • I started waking up around 8 weeks, I'm 12 weeks with twins and now I wake up about every 2-3 hours

  • I haven't slept through the night since I was about 8 weeks. I'm so tired and I don't feel like getting up in the middle of the night, so I've been stubborn and I try to hold it (not good I know), but my bladder always wins and I end up going to the bathroom anyway.

  • Ugh I've been dealing with this for a few weeks now. I wake up to pee in the middle of the night and again way early in the morning before I normally get up.

  • It's also because of the increase in blood volume- kidneys are working overtime to filter the blood, which increases urine output. Especially in the middle of the night or when there is no convenient bathroom in sight, in my experience ;)

  • Last night I swear I got up every hour to pee! I hope tonight is nothing like last cause I'm so tired today!
  • Yup. And it leads to insomnia!
  • It's been a common thing for me since the beginning. But now I'm getting up 2-3 times a night. Always starting at 3 am for some reason. Like clockwork. Very odd.

  • THIS:

I just want to say how jealous I am that you made it this far WITHOUT that symptom. I forget what it's like to sleep through the night.

  • That was one thing I disliked about pregnancy-the first night I slept through the night (after my DD was born and a few months old and STTN) without having to use the bathroom was the best night of sleep ever. I normally wake up about 3/4 am every night - blah! It started about 8 weeks. I am over 13 now.
  • I already had the bladder of an 80 year-old prior to getting pregnant. Now it's a million times worse.

  • Oh I am there been there since 7 weeks or so, this is my second and this I wasn't expecting till later but no such luck! (Im 11 weeks now) It really sucked when we were camping! No way was I walking all the way in the dark alone to those bathrooms the bear box real close worked just fine lol
  • I'm 12 weeks now and it started around 7 weeks for me. It was less in frequency but now I'm up about 4-5 times a night.
  • I am jealous of DS and his diaper; he pees all night long and doesn't even stir. Must be nice!

I think I moved past this now.. I was actually just thinking its been a week or two since I've gotten up to pee before 6 am.

  • Yup. My LO doesn't sleep through the night still so I just started adding a bathroom break for me before I go nurse in the MOTN.
  • I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow and it still happens to me at least two times a night. Super annoying! Especially because in 2 weeks we are going on vacation in Maine where I will have to walk outside to get to the bathroom... in the middle of the night.... so scary!!!
  • It drives me crazy! I've started limiting my water intake before bed like what we taught my son when potty training lol but that's when I'm the thirstiest!
  • As soon as I open my eyes in the morning I have to pee, but it's a welcome change from getting up at 3am every night. I've found if I drink no fluids 1-2 hours before bed and pee right before I lay down to sleep I'm good!
  • I wake up to pee, but only 1x a night. Usually around 2-4am

  • Last night I had to get up to pee 6 times! Didn't get any good sleep at all. I've been getting up since about 7 weeks to pee, but usually only once a night. Last night was crazy.
  • I have to pee all day/night. It definitely started much earlier with this second pregnancy!

  • Lucky! I've been getting up several times a night to pee since I found out at 6 weeks. It's still on going, but I can actually go back to sleep after I get up now, instead of not being able to fall back to sleep for several hours.

  • After DS I would always get up at least once to pee. Since getting pregnant it's been 2 times a night. Not fun.
