Trouble TTC

Introduction :)

Hi, ladies. My name is Lindsay. Thank you for welcoming me into your community!

I am married to my best friend, and we have been disheartened by the troubles of TTC.

I've been TTC for two years now with no luck, and was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago. Aside from BC, I haven't started any treatment yet, but going next Monday to hopefully get on Metformin and possibly Clomid. We shall see. :) I'm excited and nervous for this adventure. I'm trying to learn the ropes of ovulation, etc.

Other than TTC, I enjoy reading, blogging, painting, and helping others. I hope to form friendships with all of you, and look forward to providing support.

I've attached a little picture of me as well!

Re: Introduction :)

  • Hi and welcome! I'm sorry you are having trouble TTC.

One thing we recommend is to see a reproductive endocrinologist and not bother with an OB for fertility testing and treatments. An OB really isn't qualified to treat IF and you may end up being frustrated with treatments that aren't thorough or monitored properly. So with that I hope you will start seeing a RE if you aren't already!

    Good luck!

  • Welcome!!

You guys! What is up with all the crazy worse day videos? omg!! Trying not to watch as I type X_X

Have you gone through the physical steps yet - I just saw an RE and did bloodwork, he looked at my junk and declared some stuff about eggs being good, and then I had HSG and they showed a tube was blocked... all that said if I had just taken meds it might not work bc a tube is blocked.
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!

    Dx with IC on 1/6/15

  • Welcome!  I agree with PPs about seeing an RE for all fertility testing and treatment.  For instance, it does no good to take clomid if your tubes are blocked.  They will also monitor the number and size of follicle development to ensure you do not have high order multiples.  Also, has your H had a semen analysis?  That is another factor that can effect fertility.

Good luck and I hope you are able to resolve your issues soon!

Wow thank you all so much for replying! Just shows how new I really am to all of this. Very, very grateful for all of the advice which I will take! I honestly didn't have the slightest idea what kind of doctor to even go to! Just figured I would start with OB but I am now checking out REs in my area! I would hate to waste time when I should be seeing a different kind of specialist, thank you so much for saving me some potential headaches. :)

Everything does seem a bit overwhelming, but hopefully with time I am able to find a plan that works for us. DH hasn't been tested yet so that's definitely another thing we have to do. Thanks again for the replies, and I'll be sure to post updates! Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

  • Sounds like an excellent plan. It can take a little while to get the testing out of the way, which really got me frustrated and probably some other women here too, but it's totally worth it because you can get the best tailored plan from an RE!

Just a small hint, some important getting-started bloodwork and vaginal ultrasound need to occur between the 2nd and 4th day of your cycle. With PCOS, I'm guessing you might not be able to predict your cycles, but if you are able to get an RE appointment before that time of the cycle, then you'd be able to get moving sooner. With an HSG on CD6-12, and an SA at some point, it is likely that you could start treatment the second month, if no big problems arise. :)

  • Good luck with your appointment. Ditto skipping straight to the RE. I wasted almost a year seeing my OB when I really should have went straight to the RE. All of the questions I struggled to get answered over that year of seeing my OB were answered within 1 RE appointment and I feel my treatment plan is actually geared towards actually getting pregnant, as opposed to just trying to "figure things out."

  • Hey there, welcome to the boards!  I'm happy you're taking the advice seriously and looking into an RE.  To echo what others have said regarding Clomid though...if you start taking it before you see and RE you should really make sure your OBGYN monitors you.  I think it would be best if you waited to see and RN before even taking it though.

    GL and FX for you!!
