I am planning a bridal shower...need some input

So I am planning a bridal shower in my hometown (long distance planning is always sooo easy- not), it is going to be more low key, casual thing.  So it is a luncheon - for lunch we were planning on sandwich trays (roast beef, turkey, ham), the bride requested potato salad, a green salad, fruit and veggie trays, oh and a cheeseball with crackers.   Of course a cake and some refreshing alcoholic punch (this is going to be for ME since I am planning this with some difficult bridesmaids), punch with no alcohol- along with lemonade and soda.

In this family children are typically included in the bridal shower activities- so the guest list tops at 85 potential guests, I am hoping for only 50- and my kids will NOT be coming- more alcohol for me please- I just might stay at my parent's overnight after meeting up with some of my more fun cousins.

anyway- does this sound like a ok menu for a casual shower for a rustic fall wedding?

  • I think it sounds perfect. What time of year will you be having it?
Theres not much more I would add to the menu, maybe a pasta salad but I don't think its necessary with the potato salad. Cookies or something sweet for people who don't eat cake.

I agree with PPs.  Since  this is in the fall, maybe add something warm like soup or warm dips.

In the fall, I also make a very good green salad with apple chips, candied pecans and a creamy apple vinagrette.
  • Sounds good!  I do agree though; I'd probably swap cider or iced tea for the lemonade and maybe add in some type of pasta salad (not mayo though since you're having the potato salad...maybe just with veggies/oil/vinegar).
  • The shower is Sept 6th- so more late summer shower-  it is still hot typically in the day (could be anywhere from 70s to low 90s)- so warm soup is a no-no. As for the soda- this is the "culture" there if we did not have soda it would result in the guests leaving the venue and going to the store and bringing in a case- I was leaning more towards punch/lemonade/and sweet tea.
