How many weeks should I wait till I share the big news with family?

I'm 13 weeks pregnant now, and starting to wonder if it's a good time yet To tell the family the good news?? I'm already starting to show and wonder if now is the right time?

Re: How many weeks should I wait till I share the big news with family?

  • Yeah I know they will be over the moon :) just wondered if there i should wait till a certain amount of time
  • I told my mom and sister and best girlfriends as soon as I found out! We will tell extended family and do a bigger announcement after n/t and genetic testing at 12.5 weeks. I'd say you are more than safe to announce now whenever you feel it's right for you!

I told my family and very close friends starting at 6 weeks. The rest of the world will find out after we hear the heartbeat at 13 weeks.

    It's completely personal preference.

  • I'm 13 weeks as well and we just told at 12 weeks. Its the last week of your first trimester, so if you are wanting to tell then I would say you are well within or at least super close to the "safe zone" if you're concerned then wait until 14 weeks then you are officially over the first trimester. Having had a MC in January at 10weeks I was super scared to tell too early this time. But once I did it made things more real and so much more exciting! Everyone's different. Just wait until you feel comfortable.
  • I get exactly where you are coming from @samdietman‌ I had my 12 week scan and everything was fine. Think we are going to tell everyone this week
  • I am 12 weeks and we decided to share the news last night :-) here is our announcement!!
  • I just told family at 13 weeks. I had an good ultrasound on Friday, so I felt better spilling the beans.
  • I'll be 11 weeks Tuesday and am also having an appt for the heartbeat and tests the same day, if all goes well that's when we'll go public. I didn't want to do Facebook but my husband does. Most people at my work already know since it's hard not to notice my multiple trips to the bathroom each day. Here's our announcement picture for Facebook.
  • LOL, we are telling the world this week, as soon as our announcements come in the mail. :-) No cute picture, or anything, just a card with a stork on it that shares our news. So, in conclusion, I think 13 weeks if plenty late enough, but it is totally up to your preference and comfort.

Our families knew it since the time we found out ourselves. We told our best friends yesterday. We are not planning to go public. We will tell a few close people around 14-16 weeks. You definitely should tell your close ones(family and best friends)now that you have entered your 2nd trimester. It will make you feel better. :)
  • I told my mom and SIL immediately. FI told his parents immediately too. We waited until 8 weeks to tell his brother and sister. And we told his aunts, uncles and grandma this week while we were visiting them (at 10 weeks). I'm waiting until my ultrasound on Wed to announce on facebook (12 weeks).
  • I told my husband right after the positive pregnancy test. We agonizingly waited until we got confirmation via U/S to announce to everyone. I was 4-5 weeks then. We couldnt wait! It was helpful to announce it that early because we wanted to have the support early on. Heard really sweet reactions over the phone and facetime. We are glad we did announce it that early because people are praying for us and excited for us as well. Its personal preference.

  • We shared with our parents around 9-10 weeks and told them they were not allowed to share because we weren't going public yet. At 12 weeks we went public. I have told one of my bosses but not the other. I still have not told my coworker yet. I think I will wait a little bit longer before telling them.
