Need opinions here :)

So I live in the surrounding Toledo area and have been without water for 2 1/2 days. Apparently, we were under toxin levels that made the water unsafe to touch, but I still didn't. I've been using well water and showering out of a cooler and drinking bottled water that I fought crowds for worse than black Monday.

So here's my question, being pregnant I am more worried about being suceptible to the toxins. The city just lifted the drinking ban. How long would you wait before you felt comfortable drinking the water?
Ob hasn't seemed concerned about this at all, but we have never dealt with this before either. I'm thinking 12 hours...

  • I'm in Toledo and I'm waiting at least a day to drink it. Might as well drink all the bottled water I bought. My parents get their water from the Oregon treatment plant which was clean, so we've been showering there. I'm just glad I can start washing my dishes like normal.

Sorry I really don't know cause I have not been through that. One thought though, or something I might do.....you might want to run your water a bit to flush out any old water in the pipes. Don't know if that works or if that's even necessary but it's what I first thought of while reading your post. I am kinda a worrier though. ;)
They've said if we've been flushing the toilet or using the water at all (healthy adults were told they could shower with it yesterday- DH did but I didn't) then it's been flushed enough. I still plan to run my hot water to flush out the hot water tank.

  • I'm not sure, but I'm also super cautious. I would assume that if they say it is safe- that it is safe for children, babies, and pregnant women. (I hope). Is there anyone you can call to ask?

They have never mentioned anything about pregnant women. I asked all over but found nothing (that was super fustrating) I'm thinking I'm going to wait 12 hours and let everything run through for a whole cycle

    Edit:words
  • If it were me I'd continue with bottled water. But, I'm kind of neurotic. I'm not sure of the source of toxins relative to the Toledo situation but we live in the next city over from the city on which 'A Civil Action' was based and even though this city now has the #1 best/safest drinking water in Massachusetts, I still refuse to drink from the tap. Sorry, I'm probably not much  help!
