Re: Can excessive amniotic fluid make it harder to feel your baby move?

  • I am 32 weeks pregnant. Last week at my doctors appointment I was told I have excess amniotic fluid. That's all that was said. Doctor didn't seem too worried. She said I will see you next week and I went on. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes about 4 weeks ago. Most of my numbers are ok but I was put on glyburide to control my fasting numbers. Well stupid me came home and googled what excess amniotic fluid was. Now I am scared to death. I already have a page long list of questions for my appointment on Friday. I have been kind of busy today but I just realized that I haven't felt my baby move today. I tried researching if excessive fluid can make it harder to feel the baby move. I know it can make it harder for the doctor to find a heartbeat with a Doppler. (we have encountered that several times) My doctor told me not to worry about kick counts. As long as I felt the baby move daily I was good. I am so worried that something is wrong now. It is going to be a long wait to Friday. Has anyone else ever had polyhydramnios  and had difficulty feeling their baby move? I don't know exactly what amount of fluid I have right now. I would like to think that since she didn't go into details that its not crazily out of range. I will find out Friday. Please let me know how your pregnancy went with excess amniotic fluid. I am convinced I am having this problem due to gestational diabetes. I go back to work next week (I work for a school) I now wonder how all that time on my feet is going to happen with this condition. Come on September! I keep telling my husband next time he gets to be the pregnant one!

  • Now OP, were you diagnosed with Polyhydramnios by your doctor or did doctor google tell you that's what you had?

True Polyhydramnios only happens in something like 1% or 2% of pregnancies and if you had it you would be monitored.

I was told I had extra fluid in my 37th week.  I was measuring 41 weeks and an ultra sound confirmed the extra fluid.  It made my legs swell way more than last time.  My doctor wasn't worried.  She said I was on the higher side of the normal range.  I was NOT diagnosed with Polyhyd and I did not have GD.  That said, I felt like I felt every kick, punch, stretch and turn.

The only other difference between this time and last time was that when my water broke the first time it was one big gush and then it trickled for awhile.  This time it was a big gush, and then another, and another. It seemed to go on forever.  LO came out healthy and FAST.

Try to relax.  If your doctor was concerned you'd know it.  Mine ordered an ultrasound that day and it turned out ok for me.
  • That's what Dr. Google said :/ I thought that was a blanket term. I didn't realize it was so rare and a little was consired that. That makes me feel better and I have finally settled down for the night and I feel some movement! Believe me im still g
  • Sorry I don't know what is wrong with my computer tonight! I'm still going armed with questions to my appointment Friday!

As you should.  Just take it easy and don't stress yourself.  And stay away from Dr Google!  ;)
