Re: anyone saying "mama" or "dada" yet?

  • My DD has been babbling "dadadadadadadada" like crazy in the past week.  Obviously she has no idea what it means and she's just practicing her new consonant but her daddy still thinks it's adorable.  I told her it wasn't fair and keep petitioning for her to say "mama.."

  • My DD says "mamamama" quite often but like PP she has no idea what it means. When we tell her to say "dada" she moves her mouth but nothing comes out. It's quite funny.
  • Another mamama but no meaning. She does do it mostly while crying. I just repeat it back.

Same here. In the last week she started saying ma when she's no upset. Obviously doesn't know what it means though.

  • We got a mama ama mamma girl. SO is trying to get her to say dada, but she says baba lol

  • Yes...mama. She babbles "mama" when I'm holding her and cries "mama" when she's sad. Mama was DS' first word, too... I wasn't coaxing, I swear!

  • DD has really started to pick up some new consonant sounds lately. I say mama and dada to her every day. She said bubba today - I know she has no clue what she was saying but she all of a sudden started taking a bottle, so it was a crazy coincidence lol she really loves the "b" sound lately.

  • DD says mama and baba.  I like that she said mama first even if she has no idea what it means :)
  • Nope, but he say 'hey' and 'hi', and it's starting to become less random and more when picking him up. I know he doesn't get it yet, but I think he's starting to catch on to that being what we say when greeting him. Or he's just got good timing :)

  • He's currently saying "baba" which sounds a lot like "mama" so I think we are almost there! I say mama over and over a bunch of times during the day and when I down he usually just grabs my face, pulls me in and chews on my cheek....

  • I'd be happy if I could even get my kid to mimic me. "Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh" is about all he'll do. He loves to talk but only if they are his words.

  • I started trying a couple of weeks ago. The first day every time I'd say "Can you say mama?" she'd laugh hysterically, but when I'd say "Can you say dada?" she'd either smile or get a very serious look on her face, and one time silently mouthed what looked like "baba". I have a feeling "mama" is not looking good for her first word! But like PP's at this point everything she says is meaningless babbling. It's fun trying though!
  • Manama over here, but only when fussing and only once in awhile.
  • I'm so sad! He said mama and I missed it!!! My mom was walking down the stairs of one side of my porch with LO and I was going down the other side heading to work. I was saying bye and waving and he just said bye. Could've been "ba" but we just laughed because he inserted it into the right place in the conversation and I said "we aren't going to count that as his first word until he says mama!" I got into my car and started the engine when I see my mom turn back around and motion for me to roll the window down. She said he looked back at me and said mama right as I started the car. My nephew who was with her said it was super clear and definitely "mama". He hasn't said it since. Damn it.

  • DS2 babbles mamamamama and dadadadada all the time but there is clearly no connection between his babbling and the people.  On the other hand, he has been clearly saying milk and signing it at the same time for about 3 weeks.

  • DD mostly just yells at this point. Lots of variation in the pitch and volume but no consonants. I'm constantly saying mama and dada to her which she thinks is hysterical but doesn't try to imitate.
  • Nowhere close to any real words yet. This won't be on my radar for a few more months.

  • Says momma when she tired and wants to nurse to go to sleep. Says dada all the time and when dad comes home she says it louder. Not sure if she knows any of what she says but so cute!
  • He babbles dadadadada all the time when he's happy. He says hi dada in reference to both of us, he only makes the mmmm sound when he's tired and trying to fall asleep.
He makes lots of dino and growing sounds too, I call him my little pterodactyl :-)
  • She says "umma" which is korean equivalent to "mama" in English. I'm so thrilled that her first "sound" is Korean! Not 100% sure if she knows what that means but she repeats it a lot when I am holding her do maybe?
