wwj14d? nbr. Update in OP

edited August 2014 in June 2014 Moms
So I called. Because I have no concrete proof of anything, and no dates as to when it actually happened other than this year, there isn't much they can do. They are now aware of the allegation and will keep it inond the next time they are out there. If I can convince the former coworker to come forward, as she does have concrete evidence, they would be able to look into it. As a side note, I remember the name of the woman I spoke with. She is not a fan of this school to begin with, I feel pretty sure she will watch them like a hawk going forward. I also plan to ask my coworker if she's willing to file a complaint.

OK ladies, I have a moral dilemma. On Friday night I went to a BBQ with a bunch of old coworkers from when I taught special ed.

A little back story, this school was started and is run by a woman who is cracker jacks crazy. She wanted a place for kids like her to go. They cater to ADD/ADHD, depression and anxiety. All of the kids take medication of some sort or another. The meds are kept in a lock box and are kept track of each day. Half the students are publicly funded so the school also reports to the state.

Come to find out that four teachers left this year. In big part die to medications being stolen and no one calling the cops. They all believe that the meds were stolen by another teacher, who happens to be the son of the head of school and a former student himself. There has always been fudging of certain things, like dates on paperwork and dumbing down how well a student is doing so they don't get sent back to public school. This is a whole other level of not OK.

I'm thinking of calling the dept. of education to anonymously report suspicious activity in their medication log. Would you?

  • Yes, and I hope they would look into it because that's pretty serious.

  • Thanks. I'll call tomorrow. My only concern being that I have only here say to go on, and they are awesome at covering shit up. I left years ago because I was worried about their shit catching up with them, and it would be my license on the line if knew about it and didn't report it.

  • I'd call. Even if you don't have evidence. At the very least, even if the state calls them and nothing comes off it, maybe it will scare the guilty party into stopping, or others will start paying more attention, kwim?

  • Id call and if I felt close enough to those four who left to be comfortable letting them know I was doing it I would encourage them to do the same in hopes of it being taken more seriously.

  • If my kid were in this school if thank you for calling!
  • I would call and tell them that it's all been heard second hand, but you're afraid for the kids and worry there will be a cover-up.  Hopefully they can come up with a way to catch the people in the act.

  • I'm kind of amazed that none of the people who have seen this happen have stepped up to report it.

  • Whoa! Who is administering the meds? Safe to assume there is no nurse on staff?
  • I would absolutely call! Special Education already has such strict regulations that something like that could shut down a school. Wasn't there a story recently in the news where meds weren't going locked up at a school and the nurse ended up in trouble?

  • There is an on call nurse who comes in once a month to go over the med book and count the pills. She's a friend of the school and former parent and while she wouldn't cover up, she looks the other way when they "forget" and have to fix their issues. The rest of the time, there are two people who have keys to the meds and get them out for the kids. If there is a field trip, they dispense the meds to the teacher chaperones before they leave. One of those key holders is absent minded and also happens to be the husband of the head of school and father of the probable thief. It's a clusterfuck there.

And if they get enough hearsay/suspicion calls they might go check it out. I'd call. Good luck!

    I wouldn't call.

Ha just kidding totally call! Those medications are highly regulated and if someone is taking them that is a huge deal. I know if someone stole my ADD meds I would stab a bitch because they won't give you anymore than your prescribed amount and even getting that is like pulling teeth. Oh how I miss my meds, stupid baby needing breast milk (just kidding of course I would do anything for this baby). So yea I would call for sure.

    Edit for typing being hard
  • Yeah I'm pretty sure they would have to take a claim of misuse of medicines seriously even if the accuser didn't have hard evidence. I hope they do something about it!
  • I tried calling today and no one picked up, so I can only imagine reduced staff or hours for the summer. I'll try again tomorrow.nthanks ladies!
