I need some help or ideas

I will be 19 weeks on monday and at my last appointment i got weighed and i lost 2 lbs my ob said that if i dont start gainging weight she is going to have to watch me closer. I weighed myself yesterday and i still havent gained any weight and thats been 3 weeks ago... i eat constantly even crap food so i can gain some weight and i am having no luck. I only gained 16lbs my whole pregnancy with my 1st. I need some ideas on what i can do to gain some weight by the 13th. TIA! :)

Re: I need some help or ideas

  • Rather than eating "crap food" (even though its so tasty and tempting) high protein foods are good, maybe have a protein drink or ensure once a day to supplement?Β

  • Ill have to try that i am having no luck.
  • First… I kinda hate you.

Second…Please know I am just kidding.

Third…Are you taking prenatal vitamins? Our LO are a gift and a miracle but they kind of suck the life out of us so we need all the nutrients possible. Β Are you drinking enough water?Β
I agree with PP about the protein. It should help. If not, ask your OB for some tips to gain weight in a healthy way.Β

  • Sorry if I missed an update but did you ever find another doctor? (That was you right?)

I would look at the weight chart for healthy weight gain during pg. I'd link it but on mobile. Follow the guidelines for your pre-pg BMI and it will say the range you "should" gain in.

  • Ensure shakes are a great option. Full fat dairy and nut butters are easy to add in a couple times a day. Add extra snacks twice a day: full fat cottage cheese and pita chips, Greek yogurt and granola, cream cheese and salami roll ups, peanut butter on a bagel.

You can also add a smoothie in the evenings. Greek yogurt, whole milk, fruit or peanut butter and ice.

You just made me really hungry.

If there is one thing I know how to do, it is eat! Lol!

Are you underweight to begin with? I have not gained any weight since pre-pregnancy and my OB is fine with it (I was a healthy weight to start out). Was your previous child healthy? I am not an OB by any means but it just doesn't seem like a big problem at this point in pregnancy.

As for suggestions however - small snacks throughout the day, no fluids with meals (only between so your stomach doesn't fill up at meals quickly), dense nutrients like peanut butter, oily fish, cheese, nuts, seeds, full fat yogurt, avocadoes. Carry snacks with you at all times. You can put a timer on your phone to remind you to eat at regular intervals. I put a couple hard boiled eggs into my smoothies to increase protein. Drink your calories (not high sugar stuff of course).Β

    HTH.
No i weigh 160lbs its the same i weighed after i had my son almost 2 years ago. He weighed 5lbs 15oz. So he wasnt to little and he was very healthy too so idk what her deal is....
  • Someone told me once that her ob had her eat Snickers dipped in peanut butter right before bed. Doesn't sound too bad!
  • Straight up milkshakes. Nothing puts weight on like daily ice cream.

This! My first pregnancy I only gained 19 pounds total and the Dr had me drink milkshakes to get my weight up. Oh how I miss having that little problem!

I honestly would focus on eating healthy than focusing on gaining weight right now. Most people are just now getting their appetites back from m/s. I know I hardly gain anything until I hit 3rd tri. If you are eating right and your LO is measuring fine I don't understand why your OB is freaking out yet.

ETA I am not a Dr though so take my opinion as just that, an opinion.
