NBR: If you could live anywhere...

Where would you live?

DH have talked about moving in the past but I was hesitant because all of our family is here and it's nice to have support with the babies.  However, I laid in bed last night thinking about it and I think that after the kids are out of elementary school we are going to move somewhere different for a while.  I think that it would be good for them to experience a different culture/setting and I don't want to feel that we never moved just because we were scared!

We will probably stay in the US, but since we live on the East coast now we will probably move West or farther North.  However, I'm not ruling out moving to the Caribbean...

So if you could live ANYWHERE, where would you go?

  • Part of me is really boring, and I think I'd move back home to NYC. I also LOVE Kennebunkport, Maine- my soul is just so happy there. But the exotic answer would be Portofino, Italy. Beautiful.

  • We actually considered moving to Hawaii when DH started his business. We could literally live anywhere. We went to Puerto Rico for a year and that was awesome, I love Japan and Paris too, but in the end, we decided to come back home (TN).
This is where we hope to spend the rest of our lives. We bought our dream house 6 months ago and I hope we never leave.

  • Staying in the U.S. I would have to say I love the St. Pete area in FL

BUT.... you said anywhere... so I'm choosing Turks & Caicos. BEST vacation I've ever been on. It is absolutely beautiful there and it is perfect.

Hawaii and Rome are right behind it though.. lol

  • There's no place like home for me. Anywhere in the southeast woukd make me happy. DH is a Marine pilot so we've moved 6 times in 5 years of marriage and nothing would make me happier than moving back south to family and friends. If I had to be somewhere else I think I'd really enjoy Virginia. After years in Southern California I miss seasons and I'm dying to see some leaves change.

  • If being close to family wasn't an issue, I think that both my husband and I would want to raise our children in either South Africa or New Zealand. (Unfortunately crime is just too high in SA-- and NZ is very far from all family).

  • New York.  DH and I lived there when we were in grad school and I would love to live there again.  I think it's unlikely since we want to be close to family, but a girl can dream....

Sorry I had to post and run to attend to a diaper that was making DH gag.

I went to college in Vermont and I loved it, I would move back there in a second.  A close second is Maine, one of the most beautiful places and real estate is cheap!  New England will always be my home.

DH almost had me talked into moving to Idaho for a while.  He talked about Coeur d'Alene like it was paradise.  I always thought Idaho was nothing but potatoes but it sounds like a good mix of mountains and lakes!

Basically, I just want to live somewhere that is walking-friendly, diverse and has good food.  We are so closed off from everything where we are now and our neighborhood is only 1/3 mile loop so it doesn't make it easy to walk.  I have great memories of being able to walk all over my hometown (including to the ocean) and I would love for the kids to experience that.

I want to visit Trinidad so bad! That's where my grandma is from (I have family from most of the islands in that area) and just want to see where she came from.

  • Oh that is difficult!

DH would love Colorado and I would enjoy that too and its pretty feasible.

We also discussed that living overseas for a short term (1-2yrs) assignment would be awesome.  I think we would love Germany, Italy or England to live for a while but I have a hard time choosing.  I highly doubt that will happen for us though.

Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • Anywhere not hot. I live in Florida and the heat is killing me. We have family in New York but I think the cost of loving feels a bit too high for our measly educator income.

I fell in love with San Francisco. Same problem though.

  • Scotland is were I would live overseas. In the states, I would live in Maryland/ Virginia area since it is close to family.

DH and I were married in Scotland and I have lived in Rhode Island, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Germany, Arizona and now Japan.

  • I don't like where we live now. Switzerland is beautiful but it is boring, expensive, there are so many rules and regulations and the people are cold. The food is boring and uninventive. The fruit and vegetables lack taste. FI and I have a nice apartment in his family's village near Naples, Italy. I love to visit there, to eat ALL the food, go to the Amalfi coast, etc but Naples is another world. It's dirty and buildings are falling apart, there's the mafia, etc. He wants to move back but he's not sure I'd be very happy there. We're looking to move somewhere in Italy, maybe something near Florence or the Bolgona/Modena/Parma area. Maybe eventually we'll get to Naples.
  • My only wish is to move to the Midwest and live somewhere within 2-3 hours of family.  We have been living super far from family for the past 8 years (have not spent a Christmas/Easter/birthday/etc with my parents/siblings in that long as well).  While I have enjoyed our adventures, I am ready to settle down.  I miss family and want my children to get to know their grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins.  We have come to realize that life is the same no matter where you live.  You still go to work, school, make dinner, kids get sick, etc.  Time keeps on ticking and for me, who you spend that time with matters the most.

  • We just bought a house in Florida, so we will be staying here for the foreseeable future.

My hubs is a helicopter pilot though, so our goal is to retire in Hawaii and he can do tours there. I will be relaxing on the beach. ;)

  • My husband's family is in Alabama and I love it there. Eventually when we're done traveling for his job we'll settle there. But I'm originally from Chicago and miss it so much! There's just so much to do and see and learn every day. I really wanted my kids to have that but it's just not in our cards.

If I had to choose an exotic place it would be Costa Rica. We went for our honeymoon and loved it! So beautiful!

  • I"d move to Maine. Or maybe move to a remote part if West Virginia and just live in a cabin with a huge piece of land.

  • I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life and it's fine but nothing exciting. We do get a pretty fall season but winters suck! We are close to Boston and NYC if we need a little excitement but we would love to move in a few years. DH and I want to relocate to either Portland, ME or a city or town close to Napa Valley, CA! We both work in finance so finding work shouldn't be difficult either way.
