Should baby clothes that say "Aunt's, Grandma's, etc." only be bought by the named relative?

After having a crying meltdown in Carter's this week over a onesie that said "Aunt's......" My H and I got into a discussion about who buys those. Backstory: I had posted that my closest aunt, mom's sister, who is turning 60 this fall was just diagnosed terminal with pancreatic cancer. She hasn't had a chance to meet Jace yet (hopefully will at Thanksgiving!) and so I got the sads and had to buy that onesie. H says that those type of onesies HAVE to come from the named person. Wrong or right?

Depends on the item. I buy things that say "I love Daddy" on them. And your reason is good for buying it. But I don't love sayings on most things, just the little tags that say them like a logo on their outfit kind of. Make sense? I'm wordy today...

I think it could be purchased by a parent or the named relative. I bought DD a few onesies that say, "I love Grandpa" etc.

I don't really care who buys them. I just try to remember to dress him in the appropriate one when he's going to see the named person. I also try really hard to remember who bought him what so he can wear it when he sees them, and my memory is for shit lately, so it is hard.

I think bought by parents or named person is acceptable. I just bought DS a onesie that said cutest nephew so he can wear it to see both sets of aunts and uncles in the coming months (he is currently the only nephew on both sides). He will probably only wear it 2 or 3 times, but I thought it was cute.

I used to not care for the onesies that had these sayings. My sister always bought them for Madeline, and now I cherish them so much. She had just bought a few outfits for Madeline before she passed, and M is almost growing out of them.
I honestly don't think it matters. I think you should purchase the outfit if it makes you happy. I am sure it will put a smile on her face, and isn't that the point of them anyways?
