Re: Puppy Craving?!?
I'll also say, I'm so glad you don't want to eat the puppy. The title had me freaked out! :-SS

We had the opportunity to adopt a dog (not puppy) a couple of months ago, but decided that we would wait until our future wee one asks for one. For the last couple of days, though, I've been second-guessing our decision. Silently. It's a pretty crazy notion. Manageable, yes. Advisable, ehhh... I'm not convinced.
@jj0313 - There are women on here who are using a surrogate or have suffered a loss but want ot keep up with their friends that they've made. There's no rule that you have to be due in November to post here. We even, *gasp* have some October and December EDD moms!!
I would love some Hushpuppies now!!!

Thank you, I was thinking that....plus I doubt they will give us a small breed dog with soon to be 3 kids under 6 in the house. Yikes!

Cutest thing ever, but I prefer having one baby in a house at a time. Middle of the night + newborn crying + puppy barking and peeing = huge pain
That being said, SO very many of the puppies/dogs that people are rehoming or giving to shelters are from families that thought they could handle a puppy and kids. Yes, some people can do it. But in a sense, it's just as big a commitment as a child because they will always depend on your care whereas a child can eventually start being self-reliant. A lot of rescues won't even adopt out puppies or dogs to homes with children under 8 years old. I'd do a lot of soul searching and really research the breed(s) of the dog(s) your interested in before you make the leap.
While I say I don't regret it I will say holy crap I forgot how much work a new animal is and I know cats are usually less maintenance than a dog. Ideally we would have waited until new baby was born and grown some before adding a new animal to the household. So my advice would be to wait. If you can't I'm sure you'll make it work but its an awful amount of stress to have and we don't have that much time left until babies are here. But its hard, puppies and kittens and babies...ah they're just so cute!!!!!!!

I got a puppy on Father's Day and have a 16 month old on top of (obviously) being pregnant. Yeah, worst idea ever!! Trying to referee a toddler and a puppy is so much work and beyond frustrating! One would be getting into something they shouldn't while the other was peeing on the floor (not necessarily who you think was doing what). It has gotten a little bit better now that puppy is mostly house broken, but the chewing has started, so now I have to watch all of DD's toys and make sure she's not getting chewed on herself.
For the love of God, please wait!!! Wait until your eldest is capable of fending for themselves and you're not over tired from pregnancy or a newborn.
One thought on waiting though. My parents waited to get my siblings and I a puppy until we were a bit older and in grade school. They randomly loaded us up in the car and it was a huge surprise! It is great that we were old enough to have that memory! And then they had 3 extra hands to help out! (We ended up with two puppies, sisters, we didn't want them to be lonely- awesome decision!
