Finding out the gender of little peanut

Hi ladies,
I was wondering how early you can find out the sex of the baby? I go on Friday for my 10 week ultra sound and couple people have said they can tell the sex this early but it just seems like it would be way to early. Has anyone found out that early and it be right?

Re: Finding out the gender of little peanut

  • I think we found out at my a/s with DD around 19-20 weeks. They may be able to tell you a little earlier than that :)

  • I'm pretty sure they wait until you're at least 16 wks for gender determination by u/s (a/s) but there are certain medical tests that can determine that early. Gender is a bonus on those tests because they're made to test for genetic disorders. I could be wrong though.

  • With my son we found out at 18 weeks but a couple people told me that they have a much higher definition US machines now but I don't want to get my hopes up lol of course I'm super anxious to find out it's one of the pay exciting times in my pregnancy with my son ;-) and I am already feeling this little one move so I'm anxious to see where the baby is measuring at as well. I'm not feeling major moves but little waves and like a ball rolled around in there! I LOVE IT!
  • 10 weeks is way too early unless it's determined through blood tests that may be run to check for any problems baby might have.

  • That's what I was thinking. Thanks ladies. I guess I will just have to be patient ;-)
  • There are elective U/S places that will do them as early as 14wks. I would trust a 16wk one. But yeah 10 weeks no way.

  • 10 weeks is too early to tell through ultra sound. Some blood tests can tell you but these blood tests are used to determine abnormalities and aren't used for gender determination specifically.

If you lived in the Houston area the Jack or Jill blood test is offered for free if you take the first trimester screening. I would google that if you live in that area. Other than that you generally have to wait until 16 weeks if you get an elective ultrasound. If not then you have to wait until 20 weeks for your anatomy scan.

  • I'm a sonographer and pregnant with baby #5. This is my first baby being a sonographer, and I will be testing the 'angle of the dangle' theory! But 10 weeks is still too early even for that. I generally don't make promises before 16 weeks, although it can be seen a little earlier most times. Hope that helps!! Very exciting :)
  • My MFM took a guess based on what he saw at 12 weeks 1 day, but I am not running out and buying anything yet. I am hoping I can find out for sure at my 16 week scan.

  • I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and asked the tech is she could happen to tell anything. She said it wasn't possible until 14 weeks (via ultrasound that is). My OB does the A/S at 18-20.
  • With DD, I had an elective ultrasound at 16 weeks. They had no problem determining the gender!

  • I am 11 1/2 weeks, I did the blood tests (forget the name but it's 98%) in that test they get a little of baby to test for down and other stuff, with that I also get to find out the sex. If the tests run correctly I should know later this week. But it's done through blood tests not ultra sounds. My sister found out at 13 weeks though
  • There is a 3d ultrasound place in my area. They do gender determination starting at 12 weeks.

I got the 1 trimester screening. I didn't know this was free in my area. Where should I have gone???

  • I'm having blood drawn on Wednesday for the materna21 test, I'm over 35, so this the less invasive test than an amnio, but I will find out what the gender is at that point, I will be about 12 weeks when those results come back.
  • I took a panorama blood test last week(I was 10wks) to test for any chromosomal issues, this test does give you the baby's gender. I should know in a few days!
  • I found out at 12 weeks but I did have Maternit21 done. Our AS is end of the month, 16 weeks.
