I thought giving up my weekend wine would be the hard part but it's actually coffee I miss the most! So hard to keep to 200mg a day especially on gym days. It makes me grumpy in the mornings, definitely addicted to caffeine.
I thought id be the same way but luckily I feel a little queasy after my first cup, I've heard some people say switching to half caf in the mornings helped them bc they could enjoy two cups guilt free
Before my bfp I drank 2 red bulls a day plus coffee. I saw those 2 little pink lines and I'm down to one cup of coffee a week. It's been the hardest thing ever! LOL
I am the biggest coffee drinker ever. When we started to try, I cut down to one cup of coffee or tea. I thought this would make it easier to cut out completely but it is not happening. If I don't have my 1 cup I get a massive head ache.
I cut back to one cup about a month ago and now I don't drink any. I am a huge coffee lover, but it hasn't been a big deal maybe because it's only been a week. With DD, I started drinking 1 cup in the 2nd tri. I don't know if I will this time.
I love caffeine. I have two energy drinks and Mtn dew after that. I've cut the energy drinks out but still have my dews as long as I'm below the 200. Or atleast near it. However, I also have issues drinking water and I was dehydrated at every single appt with my last pregnancy. And I craved ice last time so that kind if helped, but this time I just have an aversion to water
I switched to 1/2 caff in the mornings. If I'm out and happen to be near a Starbucks, I'll get a tall full caff latte with no guilt (only happens about once a month or so). With my first pregnancy, I found that hot tea was a bit of a placebo for me -- I would sometimes have a cup after my coffee in the a.m. if I was craving more and I almost always had a cup in the afternoon to get me through the day. Even though it was decaf, it seemed to help. I splurged and bought nicer teas so it felt like more of a treat. Tazo has a delicious decaf Lotus Green Tea that's pretty reasonably priced.
I love coffee, too, but I've been able to pretty much cut it out so far. I find that as long as I keep ice water around, I'm good. With my first, though, I got wicked headaches in the second tri and doctor advised me to drink a can of coke to try and curb them, which helped dramatically. This time around I will probably do the same thing if the headaches come back, except I will keep better watch on my sugar intake if I do.
I'm a HUGE coffee drinker and before finding out I was expecting I would find a whole day would go by where the only beverage I drank was coffee. Since finding out, I have started with the half calf option "my placebo coffee" as I call it. I get migraines without coffee and figured I would start this with the intention of weaning off completely. I will have to carry the coffee mug around work for awhile before we make the big announcement though. Me without coffee is a DEAD giveaway. I figure I'm still under the guidelines and limiting the bad effects which would only cause me to take Tylenol for a headache.
Haha me too! The girls in my work keep making me super strong coffee and I have to pretend to drink it. Ive also claimed to suddenly love green tea. It's ok surely? They would guess straight away if I drank nothing!!
Does anyone know if you can drink protein shakes?? I always use a diet whey one after training but really don't know if it's safe in pregnancy. Emailed the company but they couldn't answer either. Suppose I can ask at the hospital but my scan isn't for 2 montjs yet. It doesn't have any caffeine it on but does have CLA, flaxseed, green tea and artificial sweeteners???
Same here ladies! If you can stand it drink 1-2 caff a day then decaf. However, be aware what kind of decaf you buy- if the company who makes it extracts the caffeine via a chemical process; don't drink it! The chemicals used for the extraction process stay in the coffee, and are potentially harmful to your baby. Water extraction process only! If nothing else, decaf is a good way to get some of your water consumption requirements for the day w.o drinking plain water; which we all know gets old very fast. In addition, I suggest going organic! Non organic coffee tends to be ridden with pesticides, which are very harmful for you and your baby. (I.e. Starbucks, Folgers, even Peets coffee are all pesticide parades) I know, what a bummer! I recommend Newmans Own Organic coffee- sold at most Costco's. Hope this helps!
Kearno- say no to diet anything! Artificial sweeteners are harmful for your baby. Try a regular protein shake that's doesn't have artificial sweetener in it. Good luck!
Kearno- say no to green tea, it has lots of caffeine! Try mint or chamomile tea instead. And honestly, what's more important? Hiding your pregnancy or having a healthy baby? Forget about the girls at work, this is about you and the health and safety of your baby. You can say your detoxing from caffeine for now.
I've just been having my one k cup on work days. The hardest is not going to the coffee cart and gettingy foofi-la-la iced caramel macchiato. I have been craving hot chocolates lately.

What are some brands that use the water extraction process? I'm curious because I heard the same thing about decaf not being very healthy.
I haven't had coffee since I found out I was pregnant, until yesterday! I wanted a Carmel macchiato sooo bad, so I got one with decaf espresso and soy. I ended up having cramps the whole evening!

Just get in to a routine, get enough sleep and exercise. You can do it!
