Post Baby Belly Wraps

Are these a marketing ploy or do they actually work to tighten post baby? If they work, which one is best?

Re: Post Baby Belly Wraps

  • I asked my dr about this, and he said that it is one of those things that "might work, might not", but there was no real medical support behind it, unless it was being used to help with diastasis.

  • I wore one for 2 weeks after having DS. I will wear it again after this LO. I only gained 24lbs with DS so I didn't have much to lose, but I could fit back into my prepregnancy pants after 2 weeks.

I got a belly bandit, or something like that, last time.  Honestly it was so uncomfortable to wear - really stiff, and the velcro bugged me, plus it showed under clothes.  It was ok for standing up, but sitting in it was uncomfortable.

So, I didn't wear it that much and have no idea if it would have done anything.

  • I had one the last time and like @LTMama, it was find while at home, but I didn't wear it out because it showed under clothes. I did wear it for the better part of 8 weeks and I do think it made a difference. I need to find it.....

What kind did you have?  I'm interested in something more Spanx-like because I like that feeling of being pulled in (I'm a Spanx fan), but the one I had was way stiff and scratchy.

I think it was the belly bandit which sounds like the one you have already...but I feel like it wasn't super stiff because I could sit in it? I do remember it kind of digging into me though.

  • No personal experience, but my BFF was talking about this this past weekend. She used one after having her little guy and she said it was great to cut down on "wiggling pain" after she had a cesarean. As far as putting everything "back into place" she thought it probably helped, but liked it more for the additional abdominal support it gave after birth.

  • I think I read that you are supposed to wear it all the time including when sleeping for the first 2 monthsand I agree with PP that it sounds like that could get really uncomfortable, but I would be wiling to try to suffer through it if it really worked.
  • I hated the belly bandit. Impossible to wear if you are nursing, there is no way to sit up straight enough.

  • I wore one, think I got it at Babies R Us. Not sure if it helped or not but will be using again. Wore under clothes even when going out. I think over time my skin just tightened up.
  • I wore the belly bandit religiously for 8 weeks, the only time I took it off was to shower and wash it. I hated the dumb thing because it was bulky and showed under my clothes but I also loved it because it made me feel a little more secure especially right after birth when your skin is still pretty stretched. I think it helped tighten everything back up and I am buying a new one this time around. I threw my other one away because it stretched out from so much use, plus I was happy to get rid of it.

  • I didn't use one last time but I got one this time and I hope it helps. I tested it out before I was big and it was nearly impossible to sit in so it might be more of something for walking around at the mall and such. Friends and family have told me that wearing them helped shrink the uterus faster so the bleeding stopped sooner (which would be great) but I have no idea if it's true.
  • The best way to get your belly back to pre-pregnancy size would be to nurse your baby. It makes your uterus contract back to its pre-pregnancy state faster and increases your metabolism. This is what I have learned from back in nursing school :) My sis-in-law had one of them bandits, but did not bf and she ended up with a lot of extra flab on her belly.

My suggestion would be to breast feed if you can and buy a bandit that is comfortable (it does help to make you eat less I guess due to its constriction).

So ff moms are choosing to be flabby? Also, if you're nursing, you need to eat more, not starve yourself.

  • I used one with my first, I can't say that it for sure helped or not with what it mainly advertises for BUT what it for sure did help with was support.  My back felt better wearing it, and immediately post- c- section it helped feel like everything was a little more protected and not going to "fall out" (not that I really felt like everything was going to "fall out" of the incision but… you get what I mean).  I'll use it again this time around for sure.

    Downside- sweaty!

I'm not sure what nursing school you went to, but my taught us something called therapeutic communication. This is not it.
