LO freaks every time I leave. Help!

LO has started crying every time I am out of her sight. We were doing well with her putting herself to sleep and leaving her with others to watch her. Over the past week she's started crying as soon as I leave the room when I put her down for a nap. If I leave the room when she's awake and playing, she starts whimpering when she realizes I'm not there. And if anyone but H watches her she's pretty fussy until I come back.
Is this a normal part of object permanence? I can't think that it would be anything else. I'm always vigilant to respond when she cries. I thought we were in a good spot for a while where I could separate from her and she was fine. But now I can't do that. Should I be worried?

  • It's separation anxiety. It's normal.

  • It actually does have to do with object permanence but it's a normal developmental phase.

I just meant 'no' because it's over thinking to go looking for labels for things like this. You can find a term for anything babies do, but when it comes down to it, it's just a thing babies do, and there isn't any need for worry here.

Yup. The whole last paragraph is overthinking.

OP, things change. It's just like sleep can go from good to bad, babies needs and wants can change as well. They may be happy playing alone one week and not the next. It doesn't mean something is wrong and you need to fix it.

  • Thanks! Sometimes as a FTM I get anxious about what's going on. I appreciate the reassurance.
