Room o'Doom

I applaud myself for being smart and insisting on a 2 bedroom when DF and I moved in together 4 years ago. I kick myself in the ass for spending the last 4 years filling our extra room with useless shit we never use. This was worsened by a short term roommate going through a major life change, who "gifted" us with some of his useless shit before moving out of state. Now I have only a handful of months to turn this room of doom into a place where an actual human can inhabit and thrive. So naturally the first course of action is for me to ignore it another night and whine to you lovely ladies instead ;)

Re: Room o'Doom

  • our second bedroom has been storage for all of the boxes I'm trying to ignore that never got unpacked... now every time I walk in there I cringe thinking about having to find homes for everything

  • Yup. Exactly. Luckily I have found a home for two computer towers since writing this post. Thank you social media!
  • Our nursery is also a room full of crap right now. DH has been re-doing my office so my desk and some other things are in there from that, but also a lot of DHs tools, our treadmill, and some other things. I've been ignoring it for the last few months and will probably not start cleaning it out until the fall.

  • I too have a room o'crap that needs to be cleaned out and transformed into the nursery. I'm scared at what I'm going to find in there!
  • We have guests next weekend or I wouldn't even bother yet. But honestly if I didn't start now while lazy and kinda round I would have a breakdown trying to while lazy and huge ha ha
  • We already ended up emptying our "room of doom" a few months ago because my husband was de-popcorning the ceiling in there. Its still pretty empty with the exception of a few things. Just waiting to paint it.

  • I have a room of crap too.  We are going to have both kids in one room and then using the crap room for the playroom.  I have started clearing out the room..but the closet doors can't be opened as of now :-/

  • We have to convert our guest room into the nursery and DH is not so convinced that we should move/get rid of some of the guest room furniture. We still have to paint so we didn't get very far yet, but I'm just waiting to see if the light of reason dawns on him that we will need room for the baby's stuff lol.

  • We just moved, so I got rid of a lot of crap then. In my town, you can call the city and they will pick up big items for free to haul away. We had tried to donate three beautiful leather couches to Salvation Army, but they wouldn't take them bc my dog had chewed holes in them. They were on the curb for the city to throw away and someone stopped by and took them! Well, I put all of the other crap I didn't want out there and by morning it was gone. So awesome!

  • Yep. My 2nd bedroom made me feel like a hoarder. It was definitely the catch-all. Thank god my mom is a super-organizer and has the nesting bug just as bad as I do. Had to find room for everything in there... Threw out a ton and made a garage sale pile in the garage. Every weekend since we've been tackling other house projects which feels awesome. Today we will be turning my dinky coat closet into a pantry to free up some kitchen space. Just wish I had gotten some "before" pics of the nursery. Now it's empty, hubby has painted, and we are working on some closet organization so that I've got space for some of the incoming stuff!! Yay!

Opposite end of the country but I will still check it out, thanks ;)
  • We have a 3 bedroom. The extra room (aka guest room, computer room, room of junk everywhere) will not be cleared right now lol ;). Baby boy will sleep with us then move to big brother's room. Dodged that bullet for now :)
  • Our room of doom is the boys' playroom. Holy heck. I FINALLY broke my H down to buy some new toy storage last night. It looks so much better and feels great to finally have conquered it.. at least for a little while lol. :)

  • Out second bedroom is also the office/storage room right now. Unfortunately, I can't seem to convince DH that we need to move the huge desk out of it yet. He seems to think we have lots of time! I, on the other hand, would just like to get things done.

  • I lit the fire under my DF's ass about it today I got him moving a lot of big stuff out today. Most of which was keeping me from digging through all my 10 boxes of unpacked unneeded crap there's a light at the end of this tunnel!
  • Our second bedroom is still housing a roommate, we figured she would move out after we got married last year but so far no luck. She knows she has to move out before LO gets here, but I'd love to be able to get the room cleaned up and ready!

Ugh :| that is inconvenient. I'm sure for her too BUT kinda scary for one with a kid on the way. One never knows if they will suddenly be on bed rest or something, nice to be able to have things done ahead of time
  • Our second bedroom, since our bunny died has been a collection of stuff. Every time I try to make myself to clean it I get overwhelmed, I start to procrastinate by either being on-line or watching tv or doing anything else besides cleaning. Hopefully soon I'll get my procrastination in check and start cleaning again.
    Anniversary

  • While I was at work today my DF decided to have a front yard free stuff free for all and before he could even get it all outside a man came running out to say he would take it all because their church has programs where it's given to the local homeless/in need community and told us where to leave anymore things we wanted to get donated. A lot of big things gone and for what seems to be a good cause :)
  • If it makes you feel any better, we don't even have a room for this baby- he'll be stuck with us until we move...at some point.

Same here. Our lease is up in Sept and we a one bedroom apt. We thought about moving to a 2 bedroom but we figured we would be sharing a room the first 6 months anyway so figured we could wait.

Seriously. He has maybe two boxes. One with work stuff and one with uhhhh "manly entertainment" the other 200sqft is allllllllll me.
  • We have a room of doom too! It drives my OCD husband crazy! He keeps stressing over the mess! I promise him that when I feel better I will deal with it! But it's overwhelming :(
  • Our extra room is currently our roommate's messy room.  Can't wait for him to move out so we can completely re-do it!  Good news is it will be empty, bad news that it needs new carpet and every surface painted.  Just a couple more weeks...

    Christmas holidays quotes

  • We have been in our 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house 4 years, this past winter we decided we needed new carpet so in the process my husband decided we will paint first. No big deal. Then he decided that the trim was crap so after painting everything got new trims and new doors that all had to be stained. I decided on a green for the spare room, so it was gender neutral and I wouldn't have to paint again. That room became my "get ready" room with clothes, make-up, and hair. Slowly moving my shit but still sucks. I totally understand. I think after the baby shower I will actually finish.
