Road trip coming up...

My family is leaving for vacation next weekend. We are driving and it's a 12 hour trip. I'm a little concerned and was wondering if anyone else has taken a road trip and what adjustments did you make for the pregnancy if any at all.

Re: Road trip coming up...

  • We recently took a 12 hr road trip but had a 2 yr old with us. Both of us needed to stop and stretch our legs. Rest stops along the highway are good for areas to play and run around.

  • I haven't done one this pregnancy, but last time weived from North Carolia to California when I was about 18 weeks and we stretched the road trip out over a out a week. It really was fine. Hubby drove and I could nap in the car. It really was no different than a road trip not pregnant. Just make sure to being along a bottle of water to keep filling up when you stop.

  • What PPs said. I also keep snacks and drinks in the car and wear something really comfortable. I go with a loose dress and slip on shoes since it's easy and helps with frequent urination and pelvic discomfort from waistbands.

  • We're in the middle of a 12 hour trip now. We just stop every two hours and have been wearing comfortable clothes. I'm not so hungry because of ms but have been keeping big bottles of water in the car.
  • My doctor suggested stops every 2 hours to reduce the risk of blood clots and drink lots of water.
  • We just got home from a trip (although it was a 3 hr and not at 12). I wore comfy clothes, had food and snacks in case (as well as a trash bag in case) and we also took a break. We would have taken breaks anyways since we had our 11 month old DD with us.
  • I took a road trip yesterday... About 9hrs. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I wish I remembered to pack my snack bag but other than that a few rest stops should do the trick.... For both food and comfort.

  • Thanks everyone! All of the advice I've been getting was worry some and now I feel much better!
  • Last month we took a 19 hour trip (one way) and a 7 hour trip (one way) this week. I have made no changes besides trying to drink more water and listening to my body. If it tells me I'm uncomfortable, we stop and I walk a few minutes and go again. It'll be fine! Have a great trip!
