Cloth Diapering

CD first attempt = complete failure

I just decided to try CD and recently got a couple different kinds to try. For attempt number one I started basic with a prefold and thirsties cover....it was a disaster. Total blowout. I obviously didn't have it on right or tight enough. Is it normal for this to take a little trial and error? I was so frustrated that I put a disposable back on DS. Blasphemy here, I know lol. Any advice or tips? Are the pocket style or AIOs easier, because those are the next on my to try list...

  • How old? What size prefold and cover? Did it come out of the cover and onto baby or was poop not contained in the pf but still in the cover?

  • DS is 12wks and about 13lbs. Prefolds are the Gerber multiuse diaper/burp cloth. Covers are size one - listed as 6 to 18lbs.

I figure tomorrow I will give it another go. After this evening there is no way I'm trying again for an overnight use!!! :)

  • I did prep the prefolds - followed the directions in the YouTube video in the info post for the board - but sounds like they suck to begin with. Oops. My pocket option is blueberry and AIO is bumgenius. Looks like I'll be on the hunt for green mountain prefolds based off all the replies!

I really like bummis prefolds and gmd work horses. Thirsties covers are great. At night I only use a work horse and either a thirsties or blueberry cover. Good luck and keep posting here. We're pretty awesome ;)

  • Don't give up!  Through trial and error you will figure it out.  If not, just ask us.  >:D<
  • No blasphemy! I used disposables until DS's cord fell off.  Also, the oso-cozy prefolds are awesome, I use the unbleached ones. I love them.

I was really frustrated with prefolds at first but after trying 3 or 4 times I was able to get the fit right and now it only takes me about 30 seconds to get the thing on, even with a wriggling, screaming 3 week old.

    Don't give up! :)
