Migraine

I've had a major migraine the past two days. It hasn't gone away only gotten worse. I've taken Tylenol and I've taken my daily dose for today. I'm at my wits end, I don't know what to do. It's so painful I just want to cry. :( Does anyone else experience migraines ever since becoming pregnant? I've never had them before. I know it's normal. But after two days I'm almost dying.

Edit: I just called my doctor and their phones aren't even working so I can't talk to the on call doctor. Is this something I should go to the ER for? I can't even get ahold of the doctor :(

Re: Migraine

  • I got them all the time before being pregnant. Haven't since bring pregnant yet and hopefully I won't.

You have to just lay down in a cool dark quiet room and sleep as much as possible. It will go away. Sometimes it has taken me three days for it to go away.

I know what your feeling like. It's very painful and moving around will make it hurt more.

    Hoping you feel better soon.

  • Drink some caffeine, place something cool on your head and rest in a cool dark place. Migraines stink, I have been lucky and my chronic migraines haven't be prevalent during pregnancy but this is what works best for me.  Be careful with Tylenol as it can cause rebound headaches.  I wouldn't take it more than 3 days in a row without discussing with a doctor.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • My doctor gave me a prescription because my chronic migraines got MUCH worse.  Going to the ER will likely only cost you a ton of money.  Try was the PPs suggested, the only thing I would add is a warm neck wrap and/or a lavender candle.  Lavender scent is helpful sometimes.

  • Thank y'all so much!!! I am going to try all of this, as I really don't want to go to the ER. Fingers crossed it helps!
  • Have some caffiene and a little bit of dark chocolate (I'm a big believer in low blood sugar being a trigger for migraines- at least for me anyway) then lie down in a cool dark room with a cold compress over your eyes/forehead, and try to go to sleep. I would try calling your doctor again anyway, just because it can never hurt to see if they have any other instructions, but usually after following those steps, a migraine will go away, usually in a few hours. I hope you feel better soon!

  • Wet a wash cloth and put it in the freezer. Then lay down with it over your eyes and temples. Leave it in the freezer depending how cold you want it. Also, I use peppermint and lavender oils on my temples and sometimes I use the lavender oil right under my nose. Go in a dark room and take a nap with either or both. Lavender oil puts me to sleep and I love it!!! I know some ladies will go to bed bath and beyond and buy an eye mask. Apparently you can throw that in the freezer too before you use it. Hope this helps, I get them quite a bit and it helps me get them over with. I don't even bother with Tylenol, does absolutely nothing!

  • I've had one since yesterday afternoon and have been vomiting on & off. I feel for you. It sucks because you can't even function. I've barely bumped the past two days.
  • I never get headaches but the last couple days I have. I use peppermint for my headaches but have no advice on migraines. I think this is just another fun pregnancy symptom. Hope you feel better.
  • I got them last pregnancy and my doctor suggested drinking a coke with Tylenol. I swear a can of regular caffeinated coke was the key to getting rid of mine. Something in it. Just did it today in fact and it didn't escalate.
  • Girl I feel your pain! Last week I had one that last for four days! I put some diluted peppermint oil just under my nostrils and took a warm bath with lemongrass and peppermint oil and it finally went away. I felt like my head was in a vice grip and my eye was gonna pop outta my head and even had trouble sleeping my head hurt so bad. Anyway the diluted peppermint oil under my nostrils seems to help me a lot but I have no idea why. Worth a try and hope it helps :)
  • Caffeine helps because it constricts the blood vessels, which lessens the pain. That's why it's in a lot of OTC migraine medicine.
