Tongue Tie Clip Follow Up

For the moms who have had their LO's tongue tie clipped -- how was LO's recovery?  Did they have any issues breastfeeding post procedure?

My LO is being evaluated for a tongue tie next week as my 3 year old had one that was never discovered and he ended up having a significant speech delay.  He had it clipped at 2 1/2 (which involved a surgery and anesthesia) -- so I just don't want it to get missed if LO has one too.

Curious what your experiences were post procedure.

Re: Tongue Tie Clip Follow Up

  • LO cried for about 5 minutes then nursed. She was a biter prior to getting the tongue snipped so that took a few days to resolve. Her recovery seemed to be instantaneous. I didn't notice any behavior changes. She's been BFing with no issue for the past six weeks. Good luck to you and LO, it's not fun watching them snip it, but it's over quickly.

  • Clip, cry, wait for numbing to wear off, then nursing. DS has been much more efficient when nursing since he was clipped.
  • It was a fast and easy procedure for us. They numbed her tongue, snipped and brought her to me to nurse immediately. Her tongued bled for 30 minutes. She was fine and wasn't even fussy after the procedure.
  • It was quick, LO nursed right after but was fussy and wanted to nurse, sleep and repeat the rest of the night. He mainly just hated people in his mouth.

  • Thanks for the words of encouragement -- When my son had it done at 2 1/2 he only ever complained about it once, so I'm hoping it's not too bad!
