Convertible Carseat Recommendations

I think this has been talked about before but the search always does the whole group of forums and not just F14, if someone knows where that is and can link it that would be great but if not recommend me your convertible carseats please!!

Re: Convertible Carseat Recommendations

  • The most important thing in my opinion is how it fits in your car.  We picked the Evenflo Symphony for DH's car because it was recommended by his carmaker (I found a list of seats online that were supposed to fit the Nissan Leaf well).  We have the Chicco NextFit in my car and have been happy with it.

  • We have two chicco nextfits, a diono radian r120 and a marathon.

I would buy the chicco or the radian again in a heart beat. I am sour on the marathon just because my son was too tall to keep rearfacing right when he turned 2 and that is too early for me. If you don't want to rearface past 2 you might as well spend less on a cheaper seat! He is very tall though so not all kids outgrow it that fast and it's a good seat other than that.

  • I have a NextFit on my 'wish list'. Whether or not we can afford it when we NEED it will be the question. I'm hoping the ILs will get it for us!

DH will get something smaller and cheaper (and not as long lasting) for his pickup.

  • Love our Diono Radian RXT! We got it for the great height limits as DS has been off the charts so far. It also works well in our Civic.
  • This list of "recommended seats" is pretty helpful. There are some that are half of the price of the Nextfit that last just as long RF:

We've been using the Britax Advocate for 2.5 years for DD and I love it. We used the Britax Blvd while on vacation and it definitely wasn't as good. The straps kept getting twisted and just didn't seem as sturdy.
  • The combination seats are great just not the convertibles.

  • We definitely have a tall baby so we're between a Radian and a Foonf (or maybe the Fllo which comes out in a month). The foonf look better for side impact but the Radian looks better for LO getting in and out of it easily (low sides). Really torn.

So in my travels on the car seat forums I have heard the foonf is hard to install RF and not that comfortable. I have to wonder if it's worth the price tag. There's no evidence it's any safer than, say, a radian.

@p2k2c4bp2k2‌ - Missed your comment before.
I think you're my internet-twin. We have a NextFit, a Radian R120, and a Britax Blvd. DS1 was outgrowing the Blvd since he has a long torso, so we moved him to the NextFit, and DS2 is in the Blvd until we get another good deal on a NextFit. We use the Radian in DH's truck.

I agree that while the Britax name is a great one, it only fits a certain type of kiddo (short/avg torso).

  • Ooh thanks! I feel like this shouldn't be a problem in what's basically an SUV, but it's so short- DH isn't even that tall and cant sit in the passenger seat comfortably with the infant seat.
Yeah that is NOT an easy vehicle for car seats. Or even backseat passengers really.

  • I don't know if anyone ever really installs ONCE but if you're not planning to move it regularly I take your point.

  • And it's a good seat I'm not trying to run it down or anything I'm just a little puzzled at the price point.

Yeah, I had thought we'd just leave ours and not have to move it, but DD puked in it last weekend and we had to take it out and put it back in quickly in a not ideal spot, and we've also had to move it between cars if we have to leave our car for servicing, or sometimes if we're picking adults up at the airport or something and need the space.  I've been very grateful that the Chicco NextFit is so easy to install and un-install, even though that wasn't something I really expected to need to do.

  • Sure, well that's really all that matters you hardly need me to get it!

  • The nextfit is one of the more compact seats front to back. You can find smaller ones but not without sacrificing rear facing capability. The recline options really help with installation too.

  • FYI clek has some seats on clearance on their site for $299. You can use the code Topacio2012 for an additional $60 off to altogether that is a smoking deal.

If you're not familiar with the Clek just keep in mind the child has to be an independent sitter to ride in this seat.
