Plugged milk ducts suck!

Seriously, ouch.

I've tried everything to clear it, literally...hot/cold compresses, constant nursing, angled nursing so chin is facing blockage, kneeling over baby, massage, pumping, Epsom Salt and hot water soak and I've taken 3 Lecithin capsules today....NOTHING! Still a huge, triangular lump that is pink and so sore. I should add that I have no signs of fever, flu or illness.

Anyone else have any additional ideas that I haven't tried?

  • Do you have a vibrator? Or does baby have a vibrating teething toy? Try putting either on that.

Also, if you don't struggle with supply, steam some cabbage leaves and put them on the affected breast. It'll help leech out the clog. You might notice a dip in supply for a day or two. Just add extra pro-supply foods and drinks to your diet.

I deal with clogged ducts on the reg and have had mastitis three times. The cabbage leaves and vibrator help me the most. Oh, I also don't wear a bra when I have a clog.

  • Oh I also hand express after every nursing session to help prevent it.

  • The vibrator is a great idea. When I had one with my big kid I would get in the shower and massage HARD. It hurt but trust me mastitis hurts muh work!! I also used a rice sock to keep moist heat on it.

  • Lecithin takes time to kick in I think...
