Pizza Friday! (Not a craving post, lol)

So since we moved here to Virginia in January, we have started a family tradition that we simply call "Pizza Friday." Every Friday we either order or bake our own pizzas and watch a movie together... the three of us. We love it, it brings us close at the end of the week and we just enjoy each other. Can't wait to continue this with the addition of the Littles although it'll probably have to go on hold for a while after they're born.

What family tradition types things do you do with your spouse/partner/family?

  • Aww I love that!  When I was younger, we used to order pizza on Friday nights (anyone remember the Bigfoot from Pizza Hut or the Dominator from Dominoes?) and watch a movie.  It was the only time we were allowed to eat in the living room when we were kids.  DH and I are pizza snobs now, having lived in New York, but I'd like to have a similar tradition.

Growing up, we used to have breakfast for dinner once a week and my parents used to make us put on our pajamas before dinner.  Now, I realize it was their way of getting us ready for bed early lol!  But I've continued that - we have breakfast for dinner weekly, usually on Tuesdays.  Once DS isn't quite as messy during meals, I'll start giving him a bath before and putting him in his pajamas for it too.

  • And even though this didn't start out as a cravings post, now I want pizza.  So it may be a Pizza Friday in our house too!

  • Our only regular tradition is Sunday dinner at my mom's house. Followed by long Sunday naps. We have a few holiday traditions too.

No regular traditions here, but they do sound lovely!

The only "habit" I try to enforce is that we all eat as a family, when possible. If we are all home at dinner time then we all eat as a family. Period.

We do this too. Of course, the kids are still little so I have to feed them, and if we were trying to eat alone, they would not be happy. But as they get older, this is something that I'm going to comtinue. My family always ate together and never in front of the tv.

  • My son wants us to do taco Tuesday. He is obsessed with the Lego movie
  • I make a big breakfast every Sunday morning before church. We have a lot of holiday traditions as well.

  • My family always did pizza and a movie on Fridays also. I can't wait to start that with our kids.

For family traditions, we have a TON as DH's family all lives close (within 10 mile radius). We cut Christmas trees on our farm, live nativity scene in the local parade, sleigh rides with present hunts on Christmas Eve, hockey and dinner every Sunday in the winter... You name it.

In our house the only dinner tradition is that dinner is served at 6pm every night regardless. Even though its just the two of us now, I rarely set the table for less than 5 people.

  • When I was a kid, we always ate dinner together at the table, except when we had potato soup. If we had potato soup, we got to eat in front of the tv. We would lay down towels so we didn't drip soup on the floor. It was usually on Fridays, since I remember watching TGIF a lot, but think it was more around once a month. DH and I don't really have any traditions, but I think I would like to follow this one when this baby is a little older.

  • Our traditions are all about food! My great grandma then my grandma and now my mom make black eyed peas on new years. No matter who comes for thanksgiving my mom makes broccoli casserole and I've put on the Ritz crackers every year since I could sit on the counter.

DH and I really don't have traditions yet but I'm sure that will change in the coming years.
