Hi there!

I'm in a holding pattern until my 12 week appt where I'll hear the heartbeat ... and the waiting is killer.

The symptoms come and go and that is another mental battle to overcome.

I'm currently battling a cold (it's cold season in Kenya) and boy-oh-boy am I super congested!

Hi ladies! I am new to the forums. I found out about my surprise pregnancy at 41, first child for us. We are excited but I can't help feeling a bit terrified too. I am 11 weeks today. Nausea started around week 6-7. I have a lot of fatigue and feel like everything is a big effort. Thankfully today I woke up feeling really good so I am going to try catching up on some things I have been putting off for a while.

Oh no....sorry you're battling a cold! That is nooooo fun! I hope you get some relief really soon.

I hate the waiting game, it's terrible torture!! When I was pregnant with my son (I was 25), it was my first pregnancy and blissfully ignorant to all that could go wrong. With my daughter (I was 38), I didn't breathe easily until after the NT scan at 11 weeks. We were on pins and needles the whole time because we had so many previous losses. Now, here I am, in the same boat. Hanging on every symptom, checking for blood at every potty break and impatiently waiting for week 11's scan. I have had 2 u/s already, both with a heartbeat but it still offers no relief! So we are in the same boat there, sister!

Kenya..cool! Are you Kenyan or an expat?

Congrats on your surprise pregnancy!! Wooowhooo!! And I'm glad you're getting your mojo back! I'll be glad when mine returns, which hopefully will be around the time yours picked up.

I don't have any experience with that test, as it's pretty new on the market. It wasn't available when I was pregnant with my daughter and will be getting the test too at 11 weeks (Aug 5th). I hear really good things about it, from the ladies that have had it. It's supposed to be pretty darn accurate and my doctor says it's 'revolutionary'! Let us know how your test goes. Will you also find out the sex? That is what I'm most excited about the test!! :x

Awww!! Sorry you're feeling bad!! Girl, if I had a magic wand our babies would already be here...haha!!
I have been lucky in the nausea department this go round, (knock on wood, of course). I have been nauseous and I've thrown up several times but with my daughter, I was nauseous with vomiting until I was 5 months pregnant...it SUCKED!!! The biggest issue I have now is constipation and that is almost as bad as being sick every day!

Hope you're nausea goes away really soon!!!

I called to make an appointment for my test and the lab told me no appointment is needed that I can just come in and have that done as well as the rest of my blood work. I am off on Thursday so I think I will use my day off and have that done. I was talking it over with my husband and we definitely want to find out the sex of the baby. We decided even though we will know the sex earlier on that we will not be sharing that info with our family and friends until after the ultrasound. Around 18 weeks. But who knows, I am a blabber mouth so I may spill the beans before then! LOL

I think it takes a week to get the results. I will try to remember to check in with you, but if I don't (I forget alot!) please update me on your results!!

Do you feel girl or boy? I feel like I'm having a boy...only because this pregnancy resembles my son's pregnancy. (I had severe nausea with my daughter, and barely any with him)

Hey! I'm newish here and FTM. Think I'm 7-8 weeks and can't wait for our first 'proper' doc appointment later this week. Praying to hear a heartbeat then. Feel very pregnant and bloated etc but happy beyond words - my husband and I have been married for more than 10 years and this baby really is a blessing we never thought would happen to us.

I'm Kenyan .... although I spent more than half my life in the States .... so moved back to Kenya 3 yrs ago to even out the numbers.

It's refreshing to read that someone is there with me!

motleybabe - I will certainly check in with my results when I get them! I don't know what I feel. I would like a girl because I am head over heels in love with all the adorable girl clothes and a baby comforter set I found in the store. The day after my first appointment I had a dental appointment for a cleaning. I told my dental tech so she knew no x-rays for me. She was really cute and made me blindly pick a toothbrush from a tray of 4 to "determine" the sex of the baby. I picked purple, which I found funny because I have been really into purple lately and I am not a purple person at all. My cousin keeps telling me she thinks its a girl. However I did that Chinese age date of conception test on here and it says boy. I am so conflicted on what the baby will be. Ultimately I would be happy with either as long as there are no complications and my baby is 100% healthy. But still...I am hoping for a girl.

BeckyP005 - So sorry about the constipation. Thankfully I am not getting that symptom but I do have terrible gas. The pains are ridiculously intense and at times caused me to double over. :-O

That stuff is cute and all, but DANG...there is so much of it and girls are so darn picky (Well, mine is anyways)! Everything she wears HAS to have pink in it. LOL I am hoping for another boy

motleybebe - Thanks so much. I had a really tired morning and ended up not getting up to go as I had planned. Good thing they don't do appointments and I can just go tomorrow. I also have to do a glucose screening. Have you had any experience with that?

I went this morning to the lab and had my Maternit21 test done. I was dreading it because I hate needles and have been known to get lightheaded during blood tests. The test went fine. I lucked out and there was absolutely no one there so I walked right in and out. Getting to the lab was a nightmare though. They wouldn't do the glucose test for me because they closed for lunch in an hour and the woman told me she needed an hour and a half for the test. Then she also informed me I had to fast for this test. (UHM, that's not what my doctor told me.) GRRRRR. So I have to go back tomorrow to have the rest of my blood panel done and I anxiously await for the results of my test.

Glad you got the Mat21 done! Yay...now the waiting game!!

Did they say when the results would be back? Eeeekk!!

That is irritating that you have to go back for the Glucose test. I hate that test! For both of my children, I failed the 1st (1 hour) test and had to go back for the 3 hour test. Luckily I passed the 3 hour for both, but it was still a pain in the rear! I hope you don't have to do that.

I have a fear of needles too, often I get so stressed that my veins don't cooperate and that just makes matters worse.

FYI...the Glucose test consists of drinking a really syrupy drink, then waiting for a blood draw to see how your body broke down the sugar after one hour. Good luck!

Motleybebe - I called my doctor yesterday to find out if I needed to fast for the 1st glucose test and spoke to one of the nurses. She told me absolutely not and asked for the name of the lab I went to so she could call and tell them I am not to fast for my test. I am hoping the test comes back fine and I don't have to go back for that 3 hour one. I was disappointed they didn't give me a choice of flavors, they only had orange. Oh my goodness it was so sweet that I actually gagged on it while drinking it. I should mention I only drink water so I am not used to sweetened beverages at all. Thankfully I managed to keep it all in. I find it interesting that you mentioned that your veins don't cooperate. The same thing happens to me. Yesterday and today she had such a difficult time finding my veins. She ended up having to use one that shows in my upper arm and my hand. I don't know why but my arm stopped dripping after a while and she needed to fill 8-10 tubes for the amount of tests my doctor ordered. I am so glad to be done with that. I was so irritated yesterday over the entire situation that I forgot to ask how long it takes for the results to come back. From what I read online it can take anywhere from 7 days to 2 weeks.

Yah...that drink is nasty and I've never had any choice in flavor....it was always orange.

Omigoodness...that sounds awful! I hate it when they have to search for another vein. They always go for this fat one that sits on my wrist bone and after an IV was placed there once, I refused to let anyone use it again! If you can't get the IV in my hand (or arm) or draw blood from my arm, it ain't happening! I hate needles soooo much!!

They needed 8-10 vials? I don't remember that, but that's not to say it isn't true...perhaps I blocked it from my memory bank! LOL

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I had my NT scan tonight. The baby is developing normally! We also got to hear the heartbeat for the first time tonight. The sono tech printed me out some more pictures. The baby is looking a lot more like a baby now. It was a pretty amazing appointment.

@Motleybabe - My doctor went crazy ordering all sorts of tests based on my age and ethnicity. I think that is why there were so many vials.

Just checking in. I had my followup yesterday with the next doctor in the practice. I loved her. I have to say I really lucked out with such a fabulous group of doctors. I received the results of all my blood work. No gestational diabetes! Everything else came back normal. They did so many tests I don't remember half of them. I also received my results of Maternit21 - tested negative for all chromosomal abnormalities! DH could not make this appointment so I had my doctor write down the sex of the baby so we could open it after we both got home from work. I got into the car an instantly called DH to see if he was in a meeting or his office then drove to his work so we could open it. I am worse than a child on Christmas morning, I can't wait for things like that. It's a girl!!!

We are going to wait until our anatomy scan on 8/29 to reveal that info though. I am super excited!

Awww...you're having a girl!! YAY!!! I'm so glad everything came back normal...what a relief, huh!? So happy for you!!!

Update on me: My NT scan and Mat21 test were originally scheduled for 8/5, but they called on Wednesday and said the doctor was going to be out and asked if I could come in on 8/12. I said "NO"! (There was no way in hell I was going to wait another week to see my baby!) Luckily they had an opening the next day and I got it all done yesterday!! Yippee! I won't get the Mat21 results for a week or so but my u/s awesome. Baby was 49mm long, had a hb of 160, the nuchal space was 1.2mm and the nasal bone present. Baby was VERY active so we got to see ALOT of kicking and moving, which was A-MAZING and we heard the heartbeat for the 1st time while we watched it beating on the screen. A truly magical moment!

Now, I can breathe!! I am just waiting for the blood work, but really all I care about is the sex because I'm sure the other stuff will be normal!

We plan to have the results mailed to a baker to make a cake based on the results, then do a reveal with it to the family and ourselves!! If I had the results in hand, I would do exactly as you did and open it ASAP!

No way I'd be able to sit on it...hehe. However, we'll see how it actually plays out...I may not be able to wait till the baker can make the cake! LOL

I've attached a pic from the ultrasound. We are officially excited now!!

@Motleybabe - Wahoo! I am so excited for you. That is fantastic that you were able to get in sooner and have it done. I am so glad to hear everything came back great.

That is a really cute idea to send the results to the baker. You have much more restraint than I do. I would be dying to know and want that cake asap! LOL

Love the ultrasound picture and that your baby was moving around a lot. Hearing the heartbeat for the first time was really amazing for me as well. I am so excited for you!
