Constipation or appendicitis??

I was awakened out of sleep today with a horrible pain in my lower abdomen(under the baby belly). Getting up was painful and going to pee was painful to the point where I couldn't continue going and had to stop to take a breather.

I tried returning to bed to find it was hard to get into bed. Lifting my leg hurt. Sitting and leaning back hurt. Finally I sucked it up and laid back down on my right side which was painful. When I turned to the left the pain subsided a bit but then the belly aches came and started giving me gas.

I had something similar a couple weeks ago where It hurt to push to have a bowel movement. But now have been constipated and haven't had a good bowel movement in about a week. Not sure if I should be thinking appendicitis or to drink something to move a bowel??

  • If you're concerned about the amount of pain, it's probably time to call your doctor, not a message board.

  • I had pain similar to this when my DD was 6 weeks old. I was sure it was an ovarian cyst (I've has several before) and almost didn't go in because they usually can't do much about them. I saw my PCP and he sent me straight to the hospital for a scan, he wanted to call an ambulance to transfer me but my DH promised to take me straight to the hospital. Sure enough it was my appendix and I was in surgery shortly after the scan. If you're in that kind of pain it can't hurt to be seen!

  • If it hurts that much, you should see a doctor. There could be a lot of causes and there is no way that we can tell what is going on.

  • Is the pain coming from your Right Lower Quadrant. That's usual presentation of appendicitis, although could present otherwise as well. If you haven't moved your bowels in days it can be very uncomfortable. I'd try to get that going and if positive effect, see if pain subsides. Otherwise I would go to ER to be checked.
  • When I had appendicitis, the pain was quite bad and it felt like I was being stabbed. I couldn't straighten my legs and was walking hunched over. Definitely get checked. Good luck.

  • You can't diagnose abdominal pain without an exam. Here is a list of the things you could be describing:

    Constipation
    Gallstones
    Appendicitis
    Kidney stones
    UTI
    Pyelonephritis
    Ovarian cyst
    Gas

Get my drift? See a doctor.
