i don't post a lot, but here is my birth story, as I liked to read them too.
I was due 12-14 and at my dr appt on 12/10, my blood pressure was high again and we scheduled induction for 9pm that night, wed night. I received Citotec (not sure of spelling), it was a pill they insert into the vagina to soften and help dialate the cervix. They said most people only need 1-2 doses. They insert it and then 4hrs later they check you and see if more doses are needed. I ended up with 3 doses. The plan was to start pitocin at 8am ,but I got more citotec instead.
By 11am, I was starting to have regular contractions on my own, that were 2.5 min apart and quite painful. Then, my water broke when i got up to use the bathroom. They decided at that point to start the pitocin, even though I was not dialated, just barely finger tip, even after 3 doses of citotec.
After about 2 hrs, I asked for pain meds in my IV, as the contractions were 2 min apart and hurt! I got nubaine. This made me feel loopy, but didnt' take away the pain, just made it not as strong. By 5pm, I was only dialated to 2cm and was in tremendous pain. The nubaine was not working and I am allergic to morphine, so they refused to give me anything else until i could get my epi, which it was too early for, as I was only 2cm. I was begging and crying at this point, so they okay'ed the epi. It took the anesthesiologist forever to get there, about 7pm. He put in the epi (which didn't hurt at all). he said it was the best insertion he has ever done. I felt that was finally some good news and waited for the relief they promised me would come instantly...only it never came....he gave me a stronger dose and still nothing .the contractions were on top of each other and I reallly didn't think I could do it anymore. He finally said there was nothing else he could do and left. At this point , I got checked and was at only 5cm! This was about 7:30pm on Thurs
After another 1/2 hr of begging the nurse for something, she went to get the dr to see what could be done. She came in and checked me and I was complete and ready to push! It happened so fast! I went from 5 to 10 in like 30 min. They said that could be why the epi didnt' take. I didn't ever feel any effects from it and could fully move and feel my legs the whole time. I pushed through about 5-6 contractions and after about 30 min ,she was born!
Mallory Ann was born on 12-11 at 8:55 pm and she weighed 7lb, 12oz and was 21 inches long.
they had trouble getting the placenta out and after about 20 min, she had to reach up there and pull it out....it was like having another baby, it hurt way more than i imagined it was going to! I got an episiotomy (sp?) and needed 3 stitches. After the first 4 days or so, it started to feel better and after a week or so, it was much much less painful. It still hurts depending on how i sit , but it much better!
So I sorta ended up with a medication free birth, but it was all worth it in the end when she finally arrived, even though the labor was quite rough. They thought I would need a c-section since they couldn't control the pain and I was not dialiting very quickly, but things quickly progressed at the last minute and she arrived naturally! The nurses were very supportive and kept saying afterwards that they were sure i would need a c-section and that they were happy it worked out!
Re: my induction birth story- long
I swear it was like reading my birth story. I did Cervidil which I believe is the same as you. It was the insert that was supposed to make me dialiate only it was in for 12 hours. The epi didn't work and the end part happened really fast. Also my placenta didn't deliver on its own and she had to "go in and get it". It wasn't fun. Congrats. Love the name!
wow....that does sound scarily like the same story!!!
the placenta was a surprise for sure!!
Sounds like my birth story too! My water broke on its own, but i had no progress. So they did a few doses of Cervidil and started up the pitocin. Almost 30 hours of regular pitocin contractions and I barely made it to 3. I begged for and got the epi (mine worked for the most part!) and within a couple hours I went from 3 to 10 and was pushing. My placenta didn't come out either except they could only get out part of it when they reached up so I ended up hemoraging pretty badly and needed 5 blood transfusion and an emergency d&c to get the rest out. but all is well that ends well, right? And as you know, it is so worth it in the end!Love the name by the way!
