I don't if I'm on my own but if a kiddo is in there with me then I do. Is this sort of like the "I put my bare butt on the seat but use a foot to flush" people from yesterday?
We keep our toilet lids closed at all times when not using the toilet. It really bugs me when people come to visit and they don't close them. I don't want dogs drinking out of them, or kids throwing things in them.

I close it because I'm afraid of germs spewing, whether or not the distance they can actually go is true. Also because my disgusting cats will drink toilet water. The one might actually even dip his paw into it and track it around, so yes. Lid shut.
seat closed when flushing and after. I picture millions of germs flying around and it makes me wanna throw up. plus, toilet seats up just look so gross. I do open the lid and check to make sure everything went down after it's done refilling though because paranoid it will randomly overflow.
@RondackHiker my parents just redid their kitchen and have soft close everything. whatever brand they got makes it impossible to slam them. at some point something catches and gently glides the drawer/door closed. I've tried really hard to get them to slam (because curious) and it doesn't work.

@elf828, speak to me about these soft close drawers and toilets.
