Anyone live in an apartment?

DH and I are considering moving to an apartment to save money when we move but I'm worried about having an active 2 year old in an apartment building. Can anyone reassure me that this isn't a crazy idea? We'd be going from a 3 bedroom townhouse to a two bedroom apartment.

  • Thanks pretty girl! That is our plan. We are going tomorrow morning to look at our first choice apartments. Crossing fingers for a ground floor appointment or one over the utility room or something.

  • Apartment living has its pros and cons. Definitely bottom floor, end unit if possible. I've had better experiences in houses that were divided into apartments but being in a complex is good because property management is on the grounds if you have any issues. Living in a smaller place with the landlord on the grounds is good because they tend to care more about the place.Just watch for places that rent to lots of twenty-somethings/college students. We had a place where a bunch of the younger tenants would hang out late outside and we had to step over vomit on the front steps more often then I care to mention.

  • Ewww melissamiso, that sounds awful!

The one we found is a surprisingly bright basement apartment. The only thing I don't like is the very tiny kitchen. It's an end unit, close to laundry. Most of the people we saw were over 50. It meets 9/10 of our criteria so DH doesn't even want to look at anything else. Since it's in the basement DD would even get to keep her trampoline. Now he just needs to get the job!
  • We lived in a basement apartment before buying our house. It was bright and spacious, too. Things to consider: does it have an outdoor area/yard so you have some "living space" outside. That's really helpful. Also, get yourself a Hepa filter even if it's only to run at night. All basements have some level of allergens and a hepa filter can make a world of difference.

  • I am in a 2 bedroom. It's fine but my son does get a bit ancy sometimes. Our apt complex has a park that he goes to just about everyday if the weather is decent. Is make sure you have some kind of outdoor space.
