Moms of girls and shopping

My friend with a daughter introduced me to Matilda Jane clothes and I'm kind of angry at myself for wanting to buy clothes for mine that can't even walk that cost more than my own. I haven't had any problem bargain shopping for my son. But I might need someone to scare me straight when it comes to overdoing it when shopping for my girl.

  • Those clothes are so cute....I know the brand.

My personal weakness is JCrew's Crewcuts. I have this habit of dressing my girls like I dress and this store really feeds that habit.

I can really justify buying nicer stuff for DD1 because I know I'll be able to hand it down to DD2.

    It does get expensive though!!

Well I'm trying to justify it saying I can resell it when she outgrows it but it's still making me feel guilty.. I find some really great deals on Crewcuts on ThredUp for my son.

  • I have an older boy and then my February girl and I can sympathize. I bought plenty of cute stuff for my little boy but girl stuff is a lot harder to resist and generally more expensive. I was at a consignment sale this week and I noticed people definitely want more money for their girl clothes!

  • Apparently this is an UO, but the Matilda Jane is way too cutesy for my taste. I love the crewcuts stuff, though. The two styles are so different!

  • Okay, so I may be in the minority. I have a hard time resisting cute girly clothes--from the consignment/thrift stores! I refuse to pay more for baby clothes than I would my own! (And I don't buy many clothes for myself)

@sdlaura, not an UO, not my style either, but I seriously don't have a problem finding other places to splurge on cute girl clothes! Crewcuts, Tea Collection, Peek, Kicky Pants, etc... dangerous!

I love Tea - it's my favorite for splurging on girls' clothes!

  • Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I just can't see getting really excited about expensive and frilly clothes right now. Most of the time I have M in a onsie so she can easily play, roll around and get dirty. Most of her clothes now are hand me downs or gifts. I guess I'm overly practical.
  • Not a fan of mj, but when it comes to tea, I want all the things!

I don't do it, but I window shop online frequently. ;-)

  • Oh man Tea Collection, that I really like!! I don't think we own any though and if we do it was a hand me down.

  • The thing I like about Tea is that it's not frilly. DD has mostly Carter's and hand me downs for daycare, but we'll do some Tea stuff on weekends.

  • Not that it makes my spending any better....but I don't buy baby clothes at places like JCrew. I agree that the cost is not worth the short amount of time they wear it.
I shop there for my older girls though. I also don't like frilly clothes. They are pretty conscious of what they are wearing these days. Neither one will wear jeans (or really any kind of pant). It's dresses only.

    And @ChiaWombat‌, I love miniBoden!

No I did too! That's what's so bad. I went to see the clothes in person and ended up really liking some.

Everything I got is sized 12 or 18 months so it's for when she's bigger. Right now no matter what she wears, it's covered by a huge drool soaked bib.

Great. Now I'm looking up Peek and Kicky Pants.....

  • I'd never heard of Matilda Jane but just googled it.. is it, like, Anthropologie for babies?

I hadn't heard of it either or seen it on anyone. Then we moved to Georgia and it seems like I see it on little girls everywhere.

  • Oh thank god I just googled it, and it is NMS. I do NOT need another place to buy clothes for the girls. It's so bad because I justify so much more for #1 now with the rationalization that two kiddos can wear it. I'm hooked on Gymboree right now :)
