DD has Hand Foot and Mouth. Yes, apparently we have the worst luck ever as DS has missed 4 days of daycare in the last three weeks, and now DD is missing as well. We got the "all clear" note for DD for DC on Monday. (By the way, saddest thing ever to see a three month old with HFM.)
I am contemplating how to handle our weekend plans. I already cancelled a play date with another family because obviously not a good idea for DD to be around other kids if she's not considered to be clear for DC until Monday (and the reason it's Monday isn't because the day before is a Sunday--doc said 4 days and she was diagnosed yesterday so that brought the all clear day to Monday). I am wondering whether we are being dicks if we continue with our normal errands this weekend like grocery shopping, etc. or if one of us should stay at home with her at all times. Part of me thinks does it matter if she's out and about, because she's in the car seat anyway not touching anybody or anything...plus even if we don't bring her, I'm sure the germs are all over the rest of us (I had a fever yesterday, DH is not feeling good today), so it's not like keeping her at home would keep all the grossness at home. I'm thinking DS might have had a mild case on Sunday-Monday when he was home with a fever and complaining that his throat hurt (DD's case is pretty mild so this is definitely possible). He seems like he might be Patient Zero in our house which would explain why DD, me, and DH all developed symptoms within 24 hours, and DS who is sick literally all the time is totally fine. So I'm not necessarily worried about bringing him places because I think he probably had it already rather than suspecting that he might come down with it at any moment. But we know that she has it. Would you go about your business as usual this weekend or keep her quarantined at home?

Re: Not really WMR - But WWYD
DS is literally sick constantly. Then he got better and she is now sick. I feel like we are going to have to go out with a sick kid at some point. But I just don't want to overdo. Or be that parent who like takes the kid with the chicken pox to the playground.
@MarlaSinger& - how long were you down for the count? My fever just came back so I'm no longer thinking I am fully out of the woods. How bad did you have it?

I also had HFM when my kids got it the first time around (yup, they got it twice- second time super minor and barely noticeable if you didnt know what you were looking at, though they were lucky the first time around & didn't get horrible cases). I got it mostly on hands & feet though again not horribly, the blisters were not huge or weeping, just tingly & burned a lot under warm water, etc. One thing I wasn't expecting was that my hands peeled a couple weeks later.
However, MH and I did have another variation of coxsackie virus that stays put in the throat (assuming kids had it before us & we didnt really know that's what it was) and neither of us remember feeling that awful in our adult lives...in fact, we both got hit the same day and the first night we were so unbelievably miserable that I became convinced we had CO poisoning b/c our HVAC unit had been serviced and I drove out at 10pm to buy a monitor b/c we didnt have one!!!! The next day we both took ourselves to the dr separately & both got teh same diagnosis within like an hour of each other. It sucked. I feel for you.
GL!
Good luck. HFM is awful.
My rule of thumb is this: "Would I freak out if the tables were turned? What if a parent brought their sick (or potentially sick) child into a similar situation and exposed my well child to XYZ illness?"
In your case, I would bring my child for errands (if he/she felt well enough), but skip the playdate. While running errands, she isn't going to be in close enough contact to expose anyone (and if a stranger is rude enough to touch her in the car seat, they get what they get).
