What's your bedtime routine?

Re: What's your bedtime routine?

  • I think it may just be your son's age.  It's good to start a bedtime routine that early to sleep train for later on, but I'm not sure what you mean by "work" at only 4 weeks.  Be patient and GL.

  • Your son may not be ready for a routine yet. ?4 weeks is still very young.

My routine is I bring her into bed and we lie down and I nurse her to sleep. We started that around 5 weeks. ?At 4 weeks, I was still feeling like I would never sleep again.

  • My son did not have a routine when he was 1 month old.  We were still in survival mode and it was way too early for a routine.  I guess our started with swaddling, turning down the lights and holding him with the paci in his mouth until he was asleep and putting him in his bed.  He would NOT do the drowsy, but awake thing.

  • We started the bath/nurse/crib routine around 6-8 weeks. It didn't always work at first, but eventually she started STTN. Just be patient, and don't start a routine you don't want to continue, babies tend to like routine.
  • PJ's, bottle, bed

Very easy routine.  Sometimes we read a book to her before bed.

  • 7:30 bath, followed by a feeding, the swaddling and bed. Also, we didn't start it until he was 2 months old. Your DS may still be too young for a bedtime routine.
  • We were also still in survivor mode at that point! I don't think we started a routine until 3 months actually. Her sleep patterns were all over the place and she could care less that we bathed her and turned the lights down!

  • We started at 2, maybe 2 1/2 months and its still the same. We keep the time very consistent. Dim lights, turn on baby crack machine, PJ's and swaddle (at the time, we dont anymore), sometimes book sometimes not, depending on how tired DS seems, bottle, and to bed he goes. I think the time and quiet room and dim lights is key for us. DS knows what that means and he settles right down. We also do baths in the morning because they dont seem to relax DS so it was pointless at bedtime.

  • He is way too young for any routine.  Just let him lead by meeting his needs.  I would give him a bottle or breast, cuddle for awhile or rock, then put him down drowsy but awake.  You will set up a good routine for later by doing those things.  Don't try a regimented time schedule yet.  He is too young.  It will come in time.
