Advice? Scan showed twins and then only 1!?

My first appointment wasn't going to be until 12 weeks, so I went to an ultrasound place where you pay to have a scan. They specialize in the 3D ultrasounds, but also confirm pregnancies and show you the heartbeat. The woman was a certified medical sonographer. She saw two heartbeats and one amniotic sac. I could see the same thing, but the quality wasn't great because it was an abdominal scan. She was positive there were two babies.
Naturally, I called my doctor freaking out and asked for an earlier appointment. They got me in the same week. This is one of the best hospitals in the country and my doctor told me there is only one baby. She was "100%" positive.
I am really tempted to get a third opinion. I am 7 weeks along, but will obviously have a lot of planning to do if I am having twins. I would love any advice you may have! Thanks! :)

  • Meh.  I had an elective ultrasound in my last pregnancy to determine the sex.  I was told my son was a girl, so.  There's that.

I'm sorry you're in limbo though.
  • Thanks. I am sure you all are right. It is just hard for me because I watched both scans. I saw two heartbeats. I keep thinking it would be easier to miss a baby than to make one up, but I am not an expert.
  • A lot of the time woman can start out with twins and by the time they are scanned again they only have one. Many different complications occur with twins. Your other baby could have been reabsorbed by the body or had "stuck twin" , ect
