Moms of girls with lots and lots of hair, come on in.

Baby girl has hair. Serious hair. Her hair is a really nice texture, but she has a full head of it.  I swear that my son couldn't have grown this much hair until he was 3. I don't know what's going on with her.  Clearly she got the middle eastern genes for hair.  Unless we have it held back in something, it's in her eyes. We can't ever leave the house unless I use some contraption in her hair.  If she was a boy, I'd just take her to chop it all off.

So moms of girls: What do you do? Pull it back? Barettes? Bows? Ponies? Hair gel? Or do you cut bangs?  I need to figure out something.

  • Don't mind the wet tank top, we were at a park in Santa Monica that had a kid water attraction thing. She has hair this long and full all the way around her head. It was in barrettes.

Comparatively, Lilly doesn't have nearly as much hair.  However, it grows forward so it is always in her eyes.  I don't want to cut it because the rest of it is still pretty short.  We try not to leave the house unless I put a ponytail in it.  She won't keep barrettes/bows/or headbands in anymore so I bought a pack of the little tiny ponytails.  They're a bitch to get out but she keeps it in most of the day.

My girl's grows forward too, and my husband insists we can train it back. But I'm not having any luck with that.

  • DD's hair is also gets in her eyes, I can sweep it to the side, but it would just be in her face again soon. We do the ponytail on top like @melohdy or a small clip like these to keep it in place after brushing it to the side: https://www.gimmeclipsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/003214-Gimme-Basics-Snap-clips.png

  • We have the little rubber bands I got from Target, but she looks silly with a giant fountain of hair on top of her head every day.  Once in a while we'll do two ponies, which is cute, but I don't know if we can do that every day either.  Barettes tend to slip out eventually, and if I put a headband on her, she pulls it off her head. I think bangs might be the way to go. I'm not sure if I want to do that though. Feels like such a drastic thing on a 1 year old.

We gave her a haircut when she was 9 months old because the back looked like a mullet and now it's growing in more evenly. My hairstylist says she doesn't recommend trying to cut bangs this young. They end up starting too far back once they've grown up a bit and are awkward to get back to normal. I don't think I want her to have bangs so we just keep pinning them back or putting in ponies and sweeping to the side.
That's what I was worried about.

  • That side pony is extra cute!

  • DD's hair is curly but straight in the front. Think old lady perm. I usually just brush her hair to the side. But we also put her hair up into ponytails. Its all she'll sit long enough for. He hates headbands so those are out and clips just fall out even though I think we might have to get some that will stay in.

  • DD has a lot of hair too, but it grows really strange. It basically all grows out of the center of her head with maybe 40% growing forward and 60% growing backwards. I hope that makes some sense. But since she has a lot that grows forward she has unintentional bangs. And we need to decide whether to keep trimming them/take her for a professional haircut, or try to grow it all out. I don't want to get pigeon holed into bangs forever, but she cannot see without some sort of hair contraption. I've been doing side ponies mainly. She looks better with a barrette but she pulls those out.
  • I'm with @heelibrarian - I just keep coming back for the cute pictures!
