upper abdominal PAIN!!

27 weeks 5days.I didn't want to post bc I feel I'm working myself up over nothing. Today at work i experienced an excruciating pain in my upper abdomen on my right side. It lasted on and off for about an hr. I was in tears. It actually hurt to the touch and I couldn't walk or even catch my breath. I told myself that if it continued I would call the Dr. Thankfully the pain has died down but I'm still kind of uncomfortable, my stomach is remaining rock hard and it feels like the baby is literally spinning in circles. Could this be do to heartburn or indigestion?

Re: upper abdominal PAIN!!

  • So sorry to hear of your intense pain. I've had pain that only subsides once in awhile where my left rib meets the bottom of my breast. My sister had the same pain in the same spot so maybe it's generic?! I checked with two doctors who said aches and pains are normal during pregnancy and said baby squishes all your intestines and can cause pain. They weren't concerned abt my pain in the slightest. Annoying but good to know it's not something serious.

    Def check with your doctor!

  • I was suffering from this yesterday, but it was across my whole upper abdomen, not to the side.

Because you say yours was super intense (mine was just a lingering ache that wouldn't go away--enough to make me feel crappy and sorry for myself, but I could work just fine at my desk) and localized to the one side, I think it's worth mentioning to your doctor, because it can be a sign of pre-e. But, like @crawford411 says, pre-e normally comes along with some of those other symptoms (but sometimes has NO symptoms at all).

Do you feel any better yet?

  • Something similar happened to me when I was 26 weeks. It was awful pain that I couldn't do anything for.

I tried drinking sprite in case it was a burp.

I had also eaten tons of fried food the night before so it possible it was my gallbladder. Call the doctor and check in.

It's awful! Hope you feel better.

  • This is definitely a question for the doctor! Abdominal pain is tough to figure out.

  • Thank you guys very much for the advice. I'm going to take the day and rest. I'm feeling sooo much better but I'm still going to call the Dr to be sure
