April 2014 Moms

Back in the newborn days??

I'm losing my mind this week, it's like all the good strides my baby has made is spiraling downhill! The sleep was never great, avg 3 hr stretches, now we are down to 2 hr stretches if we are lucky! Naps, forget it! He used to be a nap champ, would do it anywhere & for hours at a time. Now, he must be held, gently vibrated, in his house, with his paci & classical music playing, it's ridiculous but I do it all in hopes that this will affect the night sleeps. Hes now waking 4 times a night to feed & at least that many for attention/soothing. Top it off with tonight, where he is non-stop screaming for the last 2 hours. Just when he is asleep & placed in crib he lasts 5 minutes & it's a scream fest again; flash back to his first & second month of life. Also, he has decided not to eat for the last 5+ hours. As far as we know nothing is wrong physically with him, he had a good normal day until it was time for bed. He hasn't been this horrible at bed time in at least a month. It's all so depressing & demoralizing. My H & I feel like we just can't do anything right & it's all even more difficult when your getting zero sleep. I know everyone else is going through similar things, I just wanted to get my frustrations out there as I pump the boobs my little guy refuses to take comfort from. Here's hoping everyone else is having a better night than I am.

  • He's probably having his 4 month sleep regression. I hope it passes soon!

  • Sounds just like my LO. Spent an hr putting her to bed and thought we were all good then she woke up an hr later and would not stop screaming. Ended up feeding her and now I'm sure she will wake all night since usually if she goes down shitty the rest of the night sucks. I'm totally losing it too and all I do all day is try to get her to nap which results in 30 min naps if I'm lucky. Horrible!

  • Well I think I have a nursing strike going on here now . He is refusing to take the breast completely. I mean seriously, how hard does this need to be? No sleep, now no nursing?? I just want to crawl I to a cave & never come back out!
  • It does suck! I feel like we were finally getting into a rhythm with Liam and now he's all crazy. See if you and your H can take turns (when LO isn't eating...) to give each of you some alone to time to sleep, take a walk, etc. Having my husband take a lot of the night time soothing is the only thing saving me right now!

  • I don't have any advice but the same thing is going on over here. In fact, I keep thinking 3 months is so much harder than having a newborn (but maybe it's because I'm back at work and that makes it extra hard). Hopefully it is just a stage and will pass soon!

It does get better. We are in week 18 and improving. You are a fab mum, never forget that!
  • I'm sorry it's been so rough for you!  You are definitely not alone.  So many of us are dealing with the sucky 4 month sleep regression.  @Jennick602 just gave me hope!
