Moving to the tub

This is embarrassing but we are still currently using the whale tub in our kitchen sink for bathing baby gal. She's small so we got away with it for a while but i think she's ready to move to the tub and play with more toys. For those of you that are already bathing baby in the tub, what do you use? A no slip mat? A bathtub IN the tub? A laundry basket in the tub? Do you have a kneeling thingy? I don't even know where to start, I feel clueless.

    This exactly.
  • We have a bath seat for DD since she's so squirmy and slips all over the place. It's been great, and once we're done with the seat I think I'll put those little non slip grip things in there.
  • For those of you that just sit the babies in the tub, do you have a no slip mat in or just normal tub floor?
  • My girls bathe together in the tub and we use a no slip mat. If I bathe baby girl without her sister I use baby tub in tub. It's faster and easier.

  • I still bathe her in an infant tub on the kitchen counter, she's small too so I have gotten away with it so far. We have a huge, deep jetted tub and it's a bitch to lean over it to bathe her. We have another little inflatable tub we will stick in it when she gets to big for her infant one though.
  • I bring her in shower with me, always have. I wash me then DH gives her to me and I wash get off then sit her in the tub with a little water and her toys while I dry off. Nothing extra in the tub. When we first started this, I put her back to the side/corner of the tub so she be less likely to fall and get hurt. Now she likes to stand when she gets done playing with her toys.
  • We used to put the baby tub in the regular tub but we have had him just in the regular tub for a couple of months now.  We do not have a no slip mat because the bottom of of tub is textured so it really is not slippery.  The biggest problem we are having now is that he wants to stand up in the tub.

  • DD is just directly in the tub. We don't have a mat currently and she has been fine without it. She's also not really mobile yet, so we may need a mat once she moves around more.

  • I still bathe DS in the tub with me. I have tried sitting him in the tub while I sit on a stool outside the tub but he tries to crawl around the tub. It's an accident waiting to happen. If I'm in the tub he can't crawl.
When he can bathe by himself I'll have to get a tub mat. I hate to do that because we only have one tub but safety first :)
  • Thanks ladies. The bottom of our tub is textured too so I'll try that first and see how it goes.
  • Regular tub with no mat. It does seem to have a bit of a textured floor, though. I need to put a faucet cover on do she doesn't bonk her head, though. She LOVES playing in the bath. No kneely pad, just a folded towel.

  • She is in the big tub with a kids mat from target. I put enough water to cover her legs when seated. She starts the bath sitting and playing while I wash her. Once I lean back she crawls a little bit to gather her toys. And now she is starting to try to stand up to grab her brothers toys from the edge.. That's when I pull her out.

I use a gardening kneeling pad for my knees. My tub has a very small spout and the covers they sell at bbr don't fit. I use a pool noodle to cover the spout.

Disclaimer LO is my 2nd child. My first was still in the blow up duck tub in the big tub at this age ☺

  • Regular tub without the mat. He used to love it, but seems more fearful overall lately and bathtime is not as much for for him anymore. :(

We haven't used the baby tub in the big tub since she started standing up and trying to crawl out of the baby tub. We use the regular big tub with a foam non-slip mat we got at Home Depot.

This has been at least for a couple of months now.

  • I put LO in a rectangular laundry basket in the regular bath tub. I got it for maybe $2 at Walmart. She doesn't try to stand up because the laundry basket keeps all the toys nice and close. Last night she learned she can scoot the basket up and down the tub which was really cute. I kneel on my memory foam bathmat, not a ton of cushion but better than the tile floor.

  • I kneel next to the tub on a towel. LO is in the tub, no mat or anything with him. He has even squirmier than usual lately but I only fill it 2 or 3 inches and have my arm on him the whole time.

  • We bathe with her just sitting in the bathtub, started around 6 months but she's been a good, strong sitter for a while. Bath time is her absolute favorite time of the day.
  • Now i kind of can't wait to put her in the tub. I think she'll enjoy it! :) She loves bathtime and her toys so it'll be good to have more space.
  • We bathe all 3 in the regular tub. Actually, we try to just do the older two, but S. throws a fit until he is allowed in.He loves bath time!

  • I think we may be oddballs but we've always had lo in the big tub. We just have him on one of those slings. Now that he's older he sits in the water and sometimes stands so we got a no slip mat for the bottom. We only put a couple inches of water so it's not that bad on the hydro.

    Big tub no mat.

ETA: I have a foam pad to kneel on and one to rest my arms on the side of the tub--I highly recommend both. They are skip hop from bbru. I also have a cover over the faucet incase he bumps it.

All of this that @jnetx said

  • I have a big rubber mat that prevents slipping and also provides some padding. I ordered it from Amazon. I let her crawl around but take her out if she keeps trying to stand. Usually her brother is also in the tub so she can't move around too much anyway.

This is the mat we have. It just gives her some traction when she crawls. I let her explore on her hands and knees but when she starts pulling up to stand I set her back on her bottom and tell her no standing in the tub. After we wrestle a few times she sits again and keeps playing. When I get tired of that game I just take her out for the night.

We do the same as far as roaming and standing.
