I am and going through Aero Flow Inc which is a medical supply company but for sure call your insurance because they are super specific about what you can get away with from insurance to insurance
I have United and I called about this on Tuesday. They said I can order the pump 30 days before my due date through one of the suppliers on my list without a prescription. The only one that carries the Medela PISA which is what I wanted was Byram and their website looks super simple to use when the time comes.
Most insurance companies cover a pump now, you just have to call and ask what their rules are (do you need a prescription, when can you order one, where can you order it from, etc).
I have Cigna. They use a medical supply company called carecentrix. At 28 weeks you are able to call and order one with a prescription from doctor. There is no cost.
They offer a manual pump, a single electric, or a double electric. They offer an Ameda or a Medela.
Today I called and ordered my Medela double electric. It will arrive in 10 days.

I have Cigna as well, and you can also go through other DMEs if you'd like to upgrade (for a cost) beyond the Medela PISA starter kit...CareCentrix didn't give me the option of upgrading. I used AeroFlow and ordered mine today.

I have anthem and they said I have to wait until 30 days ahead but the company they go through processes everything for you with free 2 day shipping. They offered 4 Different ones.
I ordered mine through edge park medical supply. I received the pump within a few days! They offered 4 different types of pumps/ brands all of which were double electric. I went with the double electric medela. My insurance cover 100%. I have blue cross blue shield insurance.
@ADH0906 whoah! Now I have breast pump envy. What kind of upgrade is it? The only difference between the insurance one and the retail one looks like accessories and a cuter tote. I didn't even realize it was an option to thru a different vendor.

@DaniGrace89 Yeah, anything beyond the starter Medela is an upgrade cost out of pocket. The starter is the same pump that comes in the metro bag, so I just went with that and will get the bag/cooler/etc at target for cheaper than their upgrade cost. They also offered a third brand fully covered that I hadn't heard of...tomy, or something?
Honestly, I was pissed that CareCentrix didn't offer me an upgrade option so I went through the Medela website...they let you search by pump or insurance to find a DME that's in network. I found it so much easier to work backwards that way. Even though I didn't end up upgrading, I felt better knowing that I had the opportunity to compare costs.

I have bcbs, and when I called they have me a list of providers in network. I began calling these providers, and a majority of them was a no go. I ended up calling babies r us Breast pump number, and they did everything for me. Four lovely days later my pump arrived. It was such a smother process. Some of the companies only provided manual if they provided one at all. I had 6 sheets, and he only one I found that had electric wanted me to wait until I delivered.

I have bcbs of michigan and with both of my kids ive gotten a fully covered medela pisa.. my doc writes a script after they're born and I go pick it up from thr home medical supply company and thats that no co pay, no hassle, no nothing
I also went through Aeroflo. It was super easy and they did all the leg work. I also got the PISA starter kit and purchased the bag and accessories separately. I had it within 5 days of my conversation with their representative. I have BCBS insurance: BlueCard PPO
Breast pumps should be covered under all insurance policies due to the ACA- there are a few loopholes/exceptions, but in general this will be the case. Every policy is different- even if it is with the same insurance company so I'd start by calling your insurer and asking about your pump coverage. I'd also ask around and do a little research about the different pumps that are covered by your insurance. There are pros and cons to different pumps and it is helpful to choose one that will work best with your needs, etc. In our case, I can get any double electric pump and don't have to go through a medical supplier. But- I can only get one every 3 years. I'm hoping that my Medela PIS from my first holds up- I'll just replace all of my parts, but if I do discover that it is dying, I will likely get a Hygeia pump.
I recommend going through Acceleron! It was the easiest thing I have ever done! Filled out form, MD signed, mailed it. Quick phone call a few says later, was given lots of options & information - I was able to upgrade for and OOP cost and the pump arrived on my doorstep the next day!!!! Amazing!!!!!!
My husband works (as a plumber) at the hospital I'm delivering at (I delivered all three girls there prior to him working there) but this post just inspired me to call. Since it is through them I jut have to have my nurse issue the order for one and I'll have it that day so sometimes it's fairly easy B-)

Hi @ADH0906, was it Tommie Tippie? I have Cigna, I can just call, but wanted to know if that sounded familiar to you.
@TheOtherJacobsons I don't think so...she said "toe-me" but I honestly just could have misunderstood her. That was the woman at CareCentrix, so maybe you'll have better luck? Aeroflo didn't offer me that brand, so not sure where the discrepancy is. Good luck!
